This corner usually introduces the most notable albums released every Friday. However, at least a few notable records were released on different days of the week, so we’ll include them in our January 10, 2025 roundup as well.

ethel kane, transformation

transformation is not technically a studio album. Despite being 90 minutes long, it is variously referred to in press materials as a “project,” “collection of works,” or “EP.” Of course, these are just semantic differences. Sequel to Ethel Caine’s 2022 debut full-length preacher’s daughter is far more esoteric, even alienating in its embrace of sprawling drone and noise experiments. In a statement, Kane wrote: “Put a hole in yourself and see what pops up. Don’t tell anyone what it is, just keep a little bit in a little glass jar under your bed. Every window. Cover the wall with a black cloth and slice yourself into circles in the middle of the room. You’ll get hot and suffocate. Go into the forest and see how many lines there are. The whole world is about lines and where they intersect. There’s still time to stay there forever, but know that while you retain freedom of action, the world also retains freedom of retaliation. You are not immune to consequences. If you can handle the return, it’s okay. If you can’t, you should hide so that no one can see how much you cry. It’s okay to be weak. There’s a reason why.

bad bunny, Debi Tilard Mass Photography

Debi Tilard Mass Photography Bad Bunny is Bad Bunny’s love letter to his homeland and his guests, not just in theory but in its combination of musical styles, from mujibala, salsa, bomba to his trademark reggaeton. Following in 2023 Nadi sabe lo ke va a pasar mañanathe global superstar recorded all 17 of the album’s tracks live in Puerto Rico with help from artists such as RaiNao, Omar Courtz, DeiV, Pleneros de la Cresta, and Chuwi. Bad Bunny’s anti-colonial activism is nowhere to be found in his lyrics, as evidenced by the eerie centerpiece “Lo Que Pasó a Hawaiian.”

lambrini girls, who let the dog out

who let the dog outthe debut LP from Lambiruni Girls (the Brighton duo of singer/guitarist Phoebe Ranney and bassist Lily Maceira) is venomous and unrelenting. They recorded the album, which includes singles such as “Big Dick Energy” and “Cuntology 101,” with Daniel Fox of the Gila Band, and mixed it by Seth Manchester. “You know how dedicated Fleetwood Mac was.” rumor Become a cocaine dealer? ” the band said. “I think I should dedicate this album to all the booze I bought at Tesco.”

Franz Ferdinand, human fear

Franz Ferdinand is back with his first album in seven years. human fear2018 follow-up always ascendingthe singles “Audacious”, “Night or Day”, and “Hooked” were previewed. It’s as lean and refreshing as you’d expect from this band, but there are some surprising twists, such as “Black Eyelashes,” which delves into Alex Kapranos’ Greek identity. “Making this record was one of the most life-affirming experiences I’ve ever had, and it’s like: human fear” Kapranos said in a press statement. “Fear reminds us that we are alive. I think we are all, in some way, addicted to the buzz it brings. How we respond to it depends on how we It shows you what it means to be human. So here are a lot of songs that explore the thrill of being human through fear, something you don’t necessarily realize on first listen.”
