Hannah Cohen – “Earthstar”
earth star mountainHannah Cohen’s just-released album is an ode to the Catskill Mountains that the singer-songwriter and her partner, producer Sam Evian, have called home since 2018. The lead single is a gorgeous ripple of a song that asks us to accept the fact that we can never truly know a person, even when our love for them seems to flow endlessly. “For me, ‘Earth Star’ is about the complexity of connection, the risk and vulnerability of love,” Cohen explained. “This song tackles the idea that, at the end of the day, we can never fully know someone.” About the video, she added: “Photographer CJ Harvey and I decided to capture a love letter to the Catskill Mountains over the four seasons. We spent over a year exploring our favorite swimming holes deep in the Catskill Mountain forests. , we shot moving portraits in streams, waterfalls, and fern canyons. All of Earthstar’s videos were shot on 16mm film.
Viagra Boys – “Men Made of Flesh”
Swedish post-punk outfit Viagra Boys have released a not-so-technically self-titled LP (titled viagra boys), shared the poignant and danceable single “Man Made of Meat” with the news. “I’m a man made of meat/You’re looking at my feet on the internet,” the chorus continues. “I hate almost everything I see / And I just want to disappear.”
Tamino and Mitsuki – “Sanctuary”
Tamino asked Mitski to write a new song, “Sanctuary,” which will be included on his next album. Every dawn becomes a mountain. Their voices make for a sublime combination, and the songs themselves are gorgeous and cinematic. “On this album, ‘Sanctuary’ is the only track that comes entirely from this dynamic,” Tamino explained. “This is also the final addition to the record. These things, combined with the fact that a second voice is featured on this song, which is otherwise a very personal record, make this track It’s a bit unusual, but it still feels like an essential song for this album.
