To understand yourself better
A spiritual journey. I love to share
I have been a Christian for most of my life (until I’m 46) and attended church in a formally organized religious organization. Even though I live here in Savannah, we still attend mass and church services.
While living in Gainesville, Florida, I went to the Krishna Compound in Alachua and began to awaken to the fact that religion is a personal journey and that there are all kinds of enlightened religions, not just the three Abrahamic religions. I then started re-reading Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching (something I’ve been fascinated with my whole life) and began to explore more spiritual books and concepts.
Through my own journey, I have come to realize that the guilt, fear and condemnation preached by most Christian churches is a form of indoctrination. Heaven and hell and the Bible were created to control the masses. I still read the Bible, but I read it for spiritual edification, not for rules.
I believe God/Universe lives in each of us, every plant, every animal and fish. We are destined to live in love. God/Universe is not a magical phenomenon in the sky, but the cellular makeup of our entire being. Our bodies are 70% water, not solid, made up of millions of individual cells, and even have star dust in our DNA.
No matter where you are on your spiritual journey, these seven Japanese concepts might help you further on your own path…
Find your purpose in life.
Give yourself a reason to wake up every day.
Choose a path that aligns with your strengths, your passions, and the needs the world can use from you.
This is what gives meaning to your life.
Let go of what you can’t change.
Recognize that there are some things that are beyond your control, and that’s okay – let go of them and focus on what you can change.
Finding Peace in Imperfection
Realize that nothing in life is perfect, including yourself or others.
Instead of striving for perfection, find joy in the imperfections that make life unique.
Maintain your dignity even in difficult times.
They demonstrate emotional maturity and self-control when faced with difficulties.
Remember to be patient, resilient and understanding.
Don’t compare yourself to others.
Everyone is on a different timeline and their own path.
It’s important to focus on your own progress rather than trying to compare yourself to others.
Always strive to improve every aspect of your life.
Small changes can add up and have a big impact over time.
“When the student is ready, the teacher appears. When the student is truly ready, the teacher disappears.”
Here’s a way of thinking about how to learn and master a skill: There are three stages in acquiring knowledge.
Shu: Learning the basics through the teachings of a single master. This stage also involves imitating the work of great masters.
Ha: Start experimenting, learn from the masters, and put what you learn into practice.
Ri: This stage focuses on innovation and the ability to apply learning to different situations.
