I’ve been proposed to three times now, and it’s not the flex you’d think, but somehow none of them happened on the spire of the Empire State Building. But for those who love heights, peace, and trespassing, one prospective groom just raised the bar by asking his partner for his hand in marriage 1,400 feet above the New York City streets. She seemed to be expecting it. Because after climbing the spire, her nails are not only miraculously intact, but also beautifully polished.
As I write this, Angela Nikolaou and Ivan Bielkas are in custody on potential charges that have yet to be announced (whatever that entails climbing to the top of the Empire State Building, presumably). As such, they may not experience the typical afterglow of engagement that other couples enjoy. The couple, who have a habit of climbing skyscrapers (it made them nauseous), spent a sunny Wednesday afternoon hanging out on top of an antenna, unfurling a black flag with the Jimi Hendrix lyric, “When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.” It’s a great message, but it’s a crapshoot.
The couple, who were initially wearing Batman-style masks, began the climb of their own volition, stopping at a still-irritatingly high platform when Mr. Bielkas appeared to pull a selfie stick from his backpack. Once the perfect angle for content production was secured, he proposed to Nicolau. It was then that I was watching live footage of the helicopter on TV and immediately recorded the classic pose for a photo of my new ring.
And don’t you know that? The couple must have had an assistant on site (literally). That’s because around 1 p.m., a collaboration merry-go-round appeared on Instagram, with photos of the proposal, rings, and Nicolau’s manicure posted.
Her long, almond-shaped nails appear polished to a glossy white hue, and her middle finger is topped with a raised silver cross. Her ring finger appears to be painted in a chromatic pale blue (of course), which seems to match the oval stone in her ring.
Yes, that’s nice, but I have a question. Most of them have nothing to do with her nails, but to keep the content relevant to beauty journalism, I’ll stick to nail-related questions. First of all, how did she get through such long nails? I’m in my third week of relatively short gel extensions, and I can barely type. Second, what exactly are her extensions made of? Because it’s durable!
