FAQ
What is the best comforter material for hot sleepers?
People who sleep in the heat need something with good ventilation. “Bamboo and Tencel are great because they wick sweat,” says Dr. Harris. She also says linen sheets or cotton percale sheets are ideal for people who sleep in the heat. Other materials that many hot sleepers find comfortable are eucalyptus, silk, and wool.
I can sleep in the heat, but my partner sleeps in the cold. What should I do?
Many thermostatic comforters are designed to maintain a comfortable temperature. Alternatively, Dr. Harris suggests: “If you have a bed partner who prefers a warm comforter, consider using two different comforters in your bed, one with more cooling/wicking properties on the hot sleeping side and one on the warmer side. I usually recommend Twin XL as a size if possible, as two Twin XL mattresses make one regular king-sized bed.”
What are some other sleep strategies for hot sleepers?
“We recommend keeping your bedroom cool in the 60s F overnight,” says Harris. “An electric fan or ceiling fan can also have a cooling effect. Taking a hot shower 90 minutes to two hours before bed can also help cool your body. Sweat-absorbing pajamas or pajamas with cooling materials can also be very helpful.” She also mentions cooling mattress pads and pillows as a solution if you feel that your existing mattress pad or pillow is trapping heat.
