Why You Should Choose Bigger Art (As Proven By A Beautiful Italian-Inspired New Build)

We are pretty selective when it comes to featuring house tours that are not our own makeovers. It’s not because they aren’t all great, it’s about wanting you to get the key points. There’s something good today 🙂 Caitlin and I just I’ll talk about the issue of “Bitz” wall decoration. There is always a place of small art whenever it is done in a truly deliberate way, but in many cases, too little (or bits) art looks a bit accidental or messy when multiples are hanging together. It’s all on scale, people! We need more art. So when we proposed this stunning home tour that we actually linked last September, we thought it deserved a very different look and a deep dive. The scale of selected wall art really shows the power of greater art, and perfectly shows what Caitlyn and I have talked about. Also, the internet runs very fast and if the house is this special, we would like to slow it down a bit and thank you.

“Of course I want bigger art, but it’s really expensive!” And I understand, but I know that you can also create or find larger pieces (or put small pieces in a much larger frame… take a little creativity).

Now, let’s enjoy this incredible ceramic installation with the only one. Ben Medansky (Remember when we shot his house?). An insane texture and modern aesthetic contrast in such a cool and beautiful way, with more “traditional” and “sleek” design elements. In fact, a primitive bench and a modern stone pedestal table (we love the pedestal table :)), then a sculpture vase and a woven basket – the perfect tension that gives a simple feeling. But now imagine the walls of a gallery of many small artworks. Is it cute? Of course, it did well. But perhaps it’s a bit overwhelming. This one big piece will give your eyes a break.

Here you can see how the entry piece works with living room pieces. That framed tapestry was probably not cheap, but I think that DIY skills will allow someone to get inspired from this and create pieces that are in the same world. It may take a while, but search the internet, go to flea markets, real estate sales and thrift stores and find your own tapestry at a price you’re willing to spend. You can then either hang from something like a quilt hanger or build your own frame. This is a post that contains other non-traditional framing options.

But what I really want to emphasize is scale. It occupies the entire wall and appears to have risen immensely. But you don’t need to choose a huge wall to do this. Remember the picture of Emily’s best friend’s living room plane? The walls were much smaller, but the influence was similar.

I also don’t want people to think that they’re proposing only to use giant pieces that fill the entire wall. Take this beautiful and colorful abstraction on the fireplace. Wait and let the variations of style between the pieces of this house gush out first. Together they are unexpected, but work perfectly harmoniously. It’s a fun surprise to every corner! Okay, I’m back to business. This piece isn’t that big, but the scale and boldness of the colour is perfect. If this painting was 25% smaller it would look a bit bitsy. And if you want to know about art resources, they got from this work Eneby Home🙂

Another masterpiece, and I’m not just talking about art. The first time I saw it, the room soaked with the wine stopped my mind. Plus, the texture and shape are no longer attractive. When you are there, you think you feel completely transported. Now, the artwork is actually a tapestry obtained by homeowner and designer Pierce Jordan from his grandmother who bought it in Paris in the ’70s. What a dream! Again, things like this can easily live in your home on vintage hunts. An additional bonus is that you don’t have to pay for the frame. All you need is a cool rod.

I would like to point out that this is more detailed/glamorous, as it complements the colours of dark walls (also not quite stand out), and there are plenty of other detailed vintage pieces in the space. If you have a very modern “new” room with no tons of complex details, we recommend choosing a more modern and streamlined rod. There are always exceptions, but that’s a good rule of thumb.

In this unrealistic kitchen. This is actually a fairly perfect type of room with small pieces. But it also depends on the wall space and ceiling height. If you have a large kitchen like this, if you have a kitchen with no cabinets on the top, it will be a little bigger, as if it will come with the piece on the left. But can we also talk about the sconce of the wall? oh. The decorations on these two walls are visually perfectly balanced. I also love that the scales are complementary and are different kinds of decorations, so they are hung at the same height. Of course, if there are matching sconces, it can also be multiplied by the same height, but if both sides have art, they must be of different sizes or orientations. Symmetry works from time to time, but variation is where its visual interest is.

This is a cute little lined up so you can really appreciate each part (and don’t worry, you can see both of the other rooms in 1 minute).

Also, before proceeding, I would like to point out how two different styles of cabinet fronts were chosen for this kitchen. Another great example of modern and traditional mixing. This is not seen very often. This is likely to be an expensive regret, but obviously, hopefully, incredible.

Another breathtaking room? Why, yes. Please enter. This wallpaper Because it is an art in itself, in order to hang the art, the art must be able to stand up to it visually.

Also, as a reminder, this house is a new build. I can only imagine how much it would cost, but really, what a stunning job.

Especially with wallpapers with this kind of pattern scale, you probably don’t want to cover it with a huge amount of artwork. It’s too beautiful! Choose pieces that are big enough and have a presence that can withstand paper, like Jordan and his team. Here, I think they did the perfect job by choosing a bold, thick frame with textures and a quiet life, a darker version of the wallpaper color palette.

I would like a more stunning wallpaper. And this colour palette is both gross and attractive! Take a peek at the ceiling 🙂 A great way to connect this room to a dark living room across the entrance. But the art above the fireplace is perfect medium to large. The darkness of the painting, with pops of colours, bounces off the wooden panels, confronting visually bold wallpaper. It’s very good. I mean that Mantel from the 1750s is also a work of art. I fainted.

This amazing pantry doesn’t necessarily guarantee a chat about big arts. I just wanted to make sure you can see it. But these two works are amazing together. The colour palette is similar, but the styles are very different. I couldn’t love any more. That’s how it is, people.

I know this house doesn’t have anything to do with most of us (maybe someday!), but I really think there are so many takeaways that anyone can find. Take these two works of art. Beautiful, simply framed, not small, but not huge. They are also not of the same size. This is very important. Mix those sizes unless you’ve created a grid. It would seem more interesting and intentional.

Do you need to say more? Well, unless you can’t, you should definitely have art in your bathroom. It looks better than tiles. See the example here 🙂

This bathroom could not be included. The details of that red travertine vanity are almost too good. You know the mirror is on the small side, but don’t you feel that it’s so intentional? Furthermore, these larger linear sided sconces make the wall feel completely filled.

So, all you need is a mirror at times 🙂 But for me, the real star of the show is its floor!

And finally, here is an incredibly special office. All the selected pieces are very special, but I think I’m going to talk about art soon. I’m obsessed. The scale is clearly perfect. I love that it’s almost perfectly lined up with the windows. Also, how incredible is the height variation? The works are different, but the fact that they are easy to discuss and the same width is roughly the same frame, but varying heights… I’m dead. 1000/10.

I hope you were not only inspired by this house, but there was enough takeaway to get excited about mixing yours. Art should be fun, beautiful and represent you. Maybe it’s going a little bigger 🙂

Love you and it means it.
