Most people use Amazon like their regular online store: search, click, check out, complete. But if you’re not I’ll play a little game on the systemyou’re probably overpaying like a newcomer. So let’s fix that. Today we dive into one of Amazon’s strangest (and most inadequate) money-saving hacks. It sounds shady, but I promise it’s completely legal.

Meet the “subscribe, skip, save” trick
Amazon Subscription & Save Program It was built for violently organized people. You know the type: they don’t run out of paper towels, their recycles are color-coded, their dogs are delivered like clockwork.
But what if I told you…
Sign up to subscribe and save, receive a discount, then cancel immediately (or skip indefinitely) and keep your deals on your account.
That’s right. Amazon basically distributes discounts on subscriptions you never need to follow.
I’ve been doing it for years. What do you guess? I’m explaining myself, as Jeff Bezos hasn’t appeared at my door yet.
Pro Tip: Order 5 things at once
If you want to subscribe 5 or more items in a month, you Get 15% off Instead of 5%.
It’s like unlocking the boss level of your savings. If you don’t need the five, add extras like soap, trail mix, toilet paper and more. I’ll cancel them all later.

A chaos-loving shopper step by step
Let’s break it down like the Amazon savings goblin you were born with:
1. Find products with “Subscribe & Save”

Looking under the prices, we usually say something like this:
Subscribe and save to save 5% (or up to 15%)
Please click. Choose a “every two months” or “every six months” flavor. it doesn’t matter. We try not to let it go far.
2. Check out clickable coupons
Amazon loves hanging Those little “Save 2 dollars now” Coupons just below the price.
You can still use subscription and save if you clip it. It’s a double discount. It’s mathematics magic. That’s what we live in.
3. Place your orders like a responsible adult
Press “Subscribe & Save” and check it out as if you weren’t the Oreo who imbued the impulse at 2am, pretending you have your life together.
4. Wait for shipping confirmation
As soon as the item is shipped Or sometimes beforeI’ll go:
Account → Subscriptions and save → Manage subscriptions
From there you can:
- I’ll cancel
- Skip for 6 months
- Schedule for 2099
- Anything that will make your heart happy with your confused coupons
boom. You will maintain the discountAmazon has forgotten about you, and no one will appear on the clipboard asking questions.
Pro Tip: If you’re nervous, keep your “Cancel Calendar”
Are you worried that you’ll forget and end up with a monthly shipping of peanut butter?
All you have to do is set up a calendar reminder on your phone or go to old school and use post-it. Or just lead a dangerous life. I’m not your dad.

Real life example: I needed chlorine

Earlier this year, I had to order chlorine tablets for the pool to prevent the water from becoming green by mid-July.
I always order These 3 inch tabs From the company phone In swimming.
This year I realized that I could easily save $9.50 by “subscribing” to chlorine tablets.
Then I went straight away cancel I held a subscription and $9.50. Why aren’t we all doing this? Especially expensive items like tablets.
Here’s how it broke:
3 inch chlorine tablets swimming – 50 lbs
Regular price: $188.99
With subscribe & save: $179.54
Just under $180 for a 50 pound tab Good price. I now store these like an uneasy raccoon.
I canceled my subscription before Box left Kentucky. No one noticed it. Everyone is fine.
Why does this work (and why Amazon can do it)
here it is: Amazon wants you in the system.
They know that next month, the percentage of shoppers will forget to cancel and get the full price charged. They play the odds.
But you’re not like other shoppers. You are the hero. The delivery will be cancelled the moment it hits the entrance like a ninja in pajamas. You are 1%, discount elite if you do.

Best thing to use this hack:
This is usually perfect for household items you grab at Target or Costco.
- Garbage bag
- Plate Pod
- Paper towel
- toilet paper
- Snacks for your wild kids
- Coffee (especially K cup)
- Deodorant (You’re stinking, but you’re frugal)
It can also be used as a gift or seasonal item. I once did it with the Halloween Candy Variety Pack and got 20% off. My child’s dentist has never forgiven me.
Ask your readers: Have you ever used Subscription & Save to save it to a ghost like a terrible tinder date? What were the items and how much did you save?
