y’all. My Brother’s River House has a 10-page spread in October Better Houses and Gardens problem! ! ! I was afraid to pick it up, tbh. How it works (at least there is a way for me to do that). I shoot these projects, create a big old pitch deck and send it to a magazine that I think is the best for. I sometimes send scout shots before I guarantee the house will enter the magazine before filming, but this sent me a huge deck of every room I was filmed. If they think it’s appropriate (usually a few months ago), we do interviews on the hook to express the project honestly, accurately and ideally in an interesting angle.
A big cry to writer Jodie Garlock and editor Kathy Burns – they were such a good one and I knew I was in good hands (but I was nervous!!). A few months later, I try to remember the phone interview in my head – did I say anything good about my sibling’s family? Did you give Max and Anne enough credits? Does the author include that credit? Will some brands gain love in print, and others not? Will something be retrieved from the context? This kind of journalism does not have approval for what is printed. They want everyone to be happy (they are obviously not in the business of Gotcha’s works or slam articles. I’m very pleased with how it turned out (thank you for the goodness!), and we clearly show the rest of the house soon, but I really love how you guys pick it up and give it Better Houses and Gardens Some love before we do. I subscribe to magazines (I subscribe to most shelter mugs, TBH) and love the direction of their art, their cozy atmosphere, their friendly home, their cooking and the tips of life. Stephen Orr took over in 2015 and now since Oma Blaise Ford I feel it has been so good.

Not to mention my talented friend and photographer Kaitlin Green did an incredible job with photography. For weeks of styling and production for my team (Gretchen and Marlee!), and again created author Jody Garlock. Ah, I’m grateful to my brother and his family for four years of exposure to internet life. This kind of exposure can bring about a lot of vulnerabilities that they don’t necessarily demand, so I want to give the public more than you using your home as a space for me and my team to showcase our designs over the past four years. It’s a real victory for this project and I’m so grateful and proud to be here all of us. So I’m going to buy it!!! (Get the October issue, not Halloween issues or soup issues.
Autumn team retreat!

Last week I took my team to Manzanita. Most Beautiful Beachside Airbnb (design Max Humphrey). We did everything. We spent about 4 hours a day (brainstorming gift guides, 2026 content, partnership strategies, new social media ideas, etc.), and the second half after that was for fun.

We went to Cannon Beach, ate at the Pelican Brewery and went for a walk.

Next year, after a big brainstorming about how to rebrand/rebuild this site, on the second day we explored Nehalem Bay. Both are very charming small towns (think Lucy’s score romance novel).

The house was so dreamy and comfortable (and the scenery was so crazy) that we ended up staying every night instead of going out for dinner (and many places are closed mid-week). On the third night we did a 6-hour vision boarding (bringed in like 150 old magazines) and watched reality TV. It was incredibly fun and a great way to hang out, listening to music, drinking wine and catching up to our lives.

We all have birthdays within six weeks of each other and I am not the best to remember in time to send actual presents (that’s why I tend to give gift cards). This time, two months ago, I contacted one of my favourite local artists. purland asked him if I could commission six artworks for them. I personally find that from experience it is a very special gift to receive (and therefore give) it, as I know from experience that great original contemporary art is very expensive and often impossible to buy for myself. I had never seen them before they opened them (I knew the atmosphere of a general collage), so it was a lot of stuff and there were lots of joy freakouts.

Many of the concreteness, love and gratitude we can do what we do together would be grateful to have read following your readers. Thank you for being here. xx
