Before I get into this review, I have to stress that I have been a loyal owner of Away Luggage for 6 years. So, entertaining another luggage brand that could potentially compete is a pretty big deal…
I purchased the Quince Carry-On Hard Shell Suitcase 20 inches in tan color.
Difference in price between Away and Quince:
First, let me explain the obvious and exact reason I tested Quince’s luggage in the first place. Ann Away carry-on fees start at $275 Shipping included. on the other hand, Quince Carry-On is only $119.90 shipped. I also noticed that Away no longer offers white luggage like mine. Therefore, I decided to compare “Salt White Gloss”, which is the closest color currently on sale. The price also happens to be $20 higher, bringing the total to $295. 😳
In short, it is $175.10 price difference Click here for the top two colors!
*Please note that Quince luggage sizes start at 20 inches and Away sizes start at 21.7 inches. Quince 21-inch is $40 more expensive at $129.90 at Quince.com.
You can purchase two Quince carry-on bags. still You’ll spend less than away baggage. 😱
Charging pack:
If you’re familiar with Away Suitcases, you’ll know that the brand originally made waves as a carry-on with a removable battery that allowed you to charge your phone on the go. This is a very useful and unique feature while traveling. And after all, that’s why I decided to splurge on an away suitcase over six years ago.
However, I was shocked to find out about Away recently. We have ended the provision of battery packs. Even though I have a suitcase, they still charge me the same high price. 😱
This is great for Quince. Because it further proves my point about how well matched the two brands really are. 🤩
Appearance comparison of Away and Quince:
Away offers hardshell suitcases with minimalist and attractive exteriors, and there is little visual difference between Quince suitcases and Away suitcases.
As you can see, the TSA-approved lock, zipper, stitching, black accents, and soft rubber handle on top are all identical. The only noticeable difference is the slight design difference between both aluminum telescoping trolley handles and the recessed lines of the hard shell itself.
But unless you inspect them side by side, it’s unlikely that anyone will notice.
The similarities continue on every side of the suitcase, with identical 360-degree telescoping wheels and side carry handles. More importantly, the materials used in Quince suitcases are of the same high quality as Away suitcases. It doesn’t make you feel like you’re compromising on quality.
One new addition I noticed after owning the Away suitcase for several years is the bottom grab handle, a feature that is only visible when the suitcase is turned upside down. While this is certainly an added convenience for the away side, it is by no means a deal breaker.
Away and Quince interior comparison:
Again, the internal comparison of away and Quince loads remains the same. Both suitcases feature a mesh internal compression system and two buckle straps to maximize space. Everything from the straps to the mesh to the zippers to the waterproof fabric exudes the same level of quality. If I had to guess, I’d imagine all the components are made in the same factory. 😏
To compensate for the removal of the battery, I noticed that Away has added some zippered compartments on the inside. But again, this is not a deal breaker for me. Especially since I have some travel accessories that are great for staying organized.
As a bonus, I was thrilled to see that the Quince even has a zipper pocket for a laundry bag. This is a feature I regularly use when traveling with an away suitcase. 🤩 And yes, those features are similar too, with snap buttons to keep them secure and zipper pockets to hide them when not in use. Both laundry bags are the same size.
We appreciate that Quince also includes a thoughtful scuff eraser with each suitcase, echoing Away. Since owning Away, I’ve learned that no matter how luxurious your suitcase is, scratches are inevitable. So this is a nice inclusion for Quince and something I expect to use in the future.
Quince Baggage Guarantee and Away Guarantee:
- Quince Warranty: We offer free returns 365 days.
- Away guarantee: We offer free returns and exchanges for unused items only for the first time. 100 days (Excludes personalized items) + Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Of course, it’s nice to have a lifetime limited warranty, but I also think Quince’s 365-day warranty is very generous.
Additionally, “limited” always means there are limits. Away’s warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, the battery after two years, or loss of functionality if locked out or purchased from someone else. This might make you reconsider investing on the road, especially if the Quins are offering away. 265 additional days Decide if you are satisfied with your package.
Overall, I don’t think Away is worth the splurge. It’s hard to argue with the similarities when such a great alternative is available at such an affordable price.
I have yet to travel as extensively with my Quince luggage as I have with my Away luggage. However, what I do know is that the material feels the same. The wheels glide smoothly as well, and the zippers and handles feel like they’re of the same quality. This is a very important feature when choosing a high-quality suitcase. It’s just a bonus that Quince is equally stylish. 😉
