I’m a new person. Transform! The fact that there’s no more before and after the “chronically confused” (me!) show is a truly overlooked TV opportunity. Now I give myself grace. Because the amount of things you have to do this job, run this company and create a lot of design content very often is extreme (there are occupational risks). And even if you have a team of people, it’s impossible to sort it out unless you have what we have now. the work. Without the system, there is chaos!!!! And Houston, we have a system now. For those who want to jump to public, you can watch the latest YouTube videos here. I couldn’t love anymore.
2019 – the in front in front
When we bought the property, this was a garage – potential and full of spiders/moist. We have always known that one of the perks of buying property in so many outbuildings is that we can have prop storage within reach (important to running our business), but not when they looked like this…
She was rough. Slabs have been poured over the last 20 years (we think of them), but otherwise it was “vintage.” So my brother’s company, in frontset it to restore and repair using existing footprints and structures (and slabs). They strengthened their framing wherever they needed to replace other boards, and got stuck where they needed, but they tried to use the original wood to save money. I chose to remove the broken windows and chose a functional wall space above the strange fence view. Simple electricity updated and panneled everything.
January 2025 – Construction progress
As you can see, the four bays remain the same and are secured for the new garage door. The two on the left are furniture stores, holidays, and “Henderson Life” while the two on the right are small props, tools and supplies. Everything that requires a truly dedicated space. Brian’s truck goes to the far left (and to save money, we made it a slab, an electric or garage door, and a covered carport with no corrugated roof).
Initially we were planning to leave the original ceiling (it was clean!), but we ended up grabbing it to keep it as clean, insulated and simple as possible. I had to add some recessed lighting. The panels covered the wiring, and honestly, I didn’t want to deal with the spiders and potentially, rather discomfort again.

As a reminder, we kept everything on the shelf in the only “unmoist” room in the carriage house. Things weren’t in great condition and we had to start restoring this house, so it’s time to repair our garage for safe and dry storage.

When opened, these doors really create this indoor/outdoor workspace. It’s a huge garage, very functional and tidy, and I spend far more time here than I expected.

It’s so much space and organized with dedicated storage suitable for all kinds of things. There are three aspects of storage. It is a shallow shelf on the left, a deep closed storage on the back, and a deep shelf on the right. I mapped it all up in advance, but if I did that myself, I think I’d done a great job!
in front of PAX Unit (I’ll go into more detail below), I’m stocking up on old vintage kitchen tables in LA. And my beloved Sharner chair (I shouldn’t be in the garage, but not comfortable enough for my daily chair. I use this table to pull props to pack my bags, but I meet here while my kids are running wild all summer. It’s oddly peaceful and quiet. It may not be our year-round “studio” but it’s really great to be working in my solarium all the time and not have some degree of separation (we are hybrids).
Is the Ikea Pax unit enough for the garage shelves?
I saw a lot of comments after posting about how I installed the PAX unit. Some of you said they’re not strong enough for true garage storage (based on your experience). So do more research (more than me) before you do what I did. So far we’re fine, but as you can see, there are some pretty heavy piles of food. I think I will spread out based on your advice. Most of the time, what you have in these units isn’t heavy, but if you have a heavy bin of “things” in your garage, I would like to get a kitchen cabinet from IKEA based on the comments.

In other prophouses, these were stacked on bookshelves and were a complete disaster. Here they are fully stacked and do not contain dust/spiders. I bought an Ikea organizer for Inside.
On the left is an extra large art and mirror (I organized it That cute little wall mounted art organizer).
More IKEA shelves!
This is my favorite wall. There are so many things we pull to film and to get in and out of my house, and I think I’m talking about everything (I’m not saying it’s healthy, it’s just giving facts). Most of this is vintage or unique (there is a mix of Anthro, CB2 and targets that are very useful here).
I had so much fun organizing everything in color. I forced Marley and Gretchen to a personal show and Tell monologue about each of the stories. Yes, I’m a hoarding of clean things and I accept this complete accountability (I purged a lot too – trust me, you want to be friends with “Purging Emily”).
I’m glad that most of you are design enthusiasts and have not judged, but instead praised them (but you’re fine if you don’t get it either!)
Let me be clear, this is Post Purging. This is what I made the cut because I use it a lot, somehow it’s special to me, or because it’s new and I haven’t found that permanent home yet.
On the other side is the “Lampland.” This houses all the lighting, art and fabric (you guessed).
Can the photos on the shelves make me very happy??? I think it’s mixed with years of collection (dopamine bursts) mixed with excitement for future projects.
You can see everything clearly and really put it in future projects (as I know). I’m pretty great and know what to protect. All of this was cut.
Lamps, baskets, small interior pots, large containers – everything has a place and is very clear visually.
There is a column at the bottom row after the row Fabric bottle I bought specifically with a vinyl window lined up here and to show the contents. Certainly, they look crushed, but they do a very well assigned job to them and can fit in a lot.
Art dividers | Art dividers with wheels
I’m pretty crazy These art dividers (The organizer of the pot lid also works). I bought these from Amazon. Here we have a big rolling thing, and here we have a small art division. These make me feel like TBH, the world’s top, and I’m very excited.
How smart These rolling art carts? Very specific to my needs (not a staple in every garage), but they work very well for our needs. The garage doors open very easily and quickly, so we leave them in front of the doors we don’t actually use (not in winter).
That’s such a dream. And a big cry Clopay Garage Door It opens and closes very quietly and honestly looks very nice when closed (windows help a lot) as you can see below.
We keep the door open while we’re here, and it really cools down (no direct sun).
It’s also great that the car can pull quickly. Even in the winter, there are very few excuses to not get things done (but if you’re in a hurry, you can also stack everything on the table – a dedicated staging spot).
Put the cadet heater behind the art and leaning against the floor, so you’ll see if you’d like to use it in the winter. Set it to stay at least 50 degrees, so that it doesn’t get too cold here and distort your art.
That white door leads to other garages. This is full of samples of things I’m very excited to show you, but I can’t do it yet. So, it’s coming straight from that garage…
