I never thought I’d ever get a Sam’s Club membership again, but a few years later, after everyone kept telling me that Sam’s Club memberships save money and that I should check it out, when I was offered a $20 Sam’s Club membership, I decided to go for it.
It was very easy to get a $20 membership online. It only took a few minutes. Then, go to the in-store membership desk and pick up an official Sam’s Club card. I also added Jesse to my account for free.
I went shopping at Sam’s Club for the first time on a Thursday night around 6:15 p.m. There were hardly any people in the store, so we decided it was the perfect time to shop. The woman at the customer service desk said it’s mostly empty, but many times a week the store is packed with people.

I was so proud of this card! Like, I’m official or something!
(Years ago, Jesse and I had Sam’s Club memberships because we had a merchant account (an account that allows us to accept credit cards from customers when they purchase products), and one of the perks of that was having a membership. Switching to another merchant account didn’t close out our membership.)

This was a really exploratory trip for me to get to know the stores better, compare prices, and see what great deals I found. I only had about 20 minutes to shop, but since there were almost no people in the store, I was able to walk through most of the store. I’m looking forward to going again soon – maybe next week – to search the sales more thoroughly and see what great prices I may have missed the first time around.

I was really excited about the cottage cheese deal – 3 lbs for just $5.88!!

And of course, I had to stop by the free sample machine and get a free sample.

I also bought Bear Chicken Bites. We love these and the price was a little cheaper than the lowest sale price you can get at Kroger.

The price I was most excited about was the deal on Greek yogurt. We eat a lot of Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt in particular is one of David’s favorite foods, and he typically eats a large bowl at least once a day. Get 3 pounds for $4.76. Aldi sells a half tub of this size for $3.76, so this is definitely a bargain.

I also bought a 10 pound bag of sugar since $7.88 was just around the corner. Everything I bought above is here. The total cost (including tax) was just over $40.

Overall, I was very happy with the deals I found. It only took 20 minutes. Now, I will say that there were a lot of items that weren’t a great deal compared to what I would pay at Aldi or Kroger. Plus, it’s easy to get distracted by clothing and electronics sales, and who knows what else is in the middle section (I didn’t go there!). In the end, you’ll end up spending a lot more than you would if you were shopping at the grocery store.

But if you’re careful, intentional, and strategic, I think you can definitely save money by shopping at Sam’s Club. Your $20 membership fee will quickly pay for itself and save you even more.
What are your honest thoughts? Do you have a Sam’s Club membership? Would you like to save money by shopping there? I would love to hear it!
