And I’m back! It’s been a little over three months since we gutted our small builder-grade main bathroom and our daughter’s bathroom for a much-needed update. The toilet has finally been completed and I’m very happy to be able to introduce it to you!

Last time we contacted them, we had just done a demo and shared rough design plans for both spaces. Something I didn’t mention in my last post is that I am an interior design school dropout. I was So I am about to attend Savannah College of Art and Design. I loved the city and the school, but as a small-town girl from Oregon, it was too far from home. I settled on Oregon State University. But by the time I started the kitchen and bathroom planning course in my second semester, I had grown to hate it. Seriously, there are too many for me. AutoCAD – Amazing! I barely made it through that and got into the photography club, and the rest is history. After 11 years as a wedding photographer, it’s been a complete comical come full circle that I’m now photographing interiors. That said, I mostly enjoy designing. It’s not my goal to become a designer. But it was certainly fun to play in my own home for a few months! (I still hate numbers. Thank you Emily and Gretchen for doing the math during this process, especially with the tile order!)

Let’s get back to the topic. As a refresher, this is where it starts.

The bathroom was boring, dark, bland and just very sad.

And here is the mood board I created for this space.

I photographed Carly in the spring and had the pleasure of attending a retreat with the EHD team. I’m so inspired by every design choice Max Humphrey Owner Curtis was particular about the entire property, especially the bathrooms. Each one had its own personality, including panels and pretty tiles.

Although our home’s style (and budget!) is definitely different from Karlie’s, it was fun to incorporate some of that inspiration into my own bathroom using paneling and bolder tile choices. Also, ever since I paneled my basement, I’ve fallen in love with the look and now I want to panel or wallpaper every room in my house. It adds much more warmth and texture compared to painted drywall.

In the basement, we used a single sheet of Metrie, but since the space was small and every nook and cranny was important, we used panel sheets instead. It was a pretty affordable way to get the look we wanted. In the end, we were able to install panels in both the bathroom and the women’s restroom for about $750 in materials.

demo

As I mentioned in my last post, I didn’t have the budget, or space, to expand the overall bathroom footprint. But we It was We were able to expand our shower area and it felt like a huge victory. There were a lot of exciting moments during the renovation, but that header falling and the wall opening was definitely one of my favorites. The size of the shower has almost doubled, and the openness and spaciousness of the entire room has completely changed.

Demo Day – Hi Ken! And pre-tile installation – Hello Elise and Mara!

tile and grout

Once the demo and rough plumbing is complete and the panels are complete, it’s time to install the tiles. Fireclay very kindly gifted us the most beautiful blue square tiles. Exactly what I was looking for. I used 2×2 tiles for the floor and 4×4 tiles for the shower walls. We were leaning toward a warm, neutral gray grout that would complement the paint color we had chosen, but after taking the grout deck to the River House one afternoon and getting Emily and Gretchen’s input, we ended up choosing alabaster. I had a lot of creative freedom on this project, and I really appreciated Em’s perspective on it. Once the white grout was in, the tiles popped out perfectly in a way I wasn’t expecting. Yes, it’s white grout, and yes, as a bit of a clean freak, I’m nervous about keeping it clean. But to be honest, that doesn’t outweigh how much I like the look. You need to scrub the joints hard and never wear shoes in the bathroom.

Okay, okay, enough chatter. I think the time has finally come for the final announcement!

I absolutely love it this vanity. I was very impressed the moment it arrived and opened it. The quality is incredible and honestly feels custom. I’m not usually drawn to black countertops, but when I saw this one on AllModern, I knew it would be perfect for our space. The veins add just the right amount of personality and give it a luxurious designer vibe. I wasn’t specifically looking for a double sink vanity, especially since our space is small and I didn’t want to lose valuable counter space, but I was still pleasantly surprised by how spacious it felt and how much fun it was to have my own little zone.

One of the few things I actually liked about the bathroom in front The area to be renovated was the storage area for the medicine cabinet. I didn’t want to lose this. when I found it this cabinetI felt it was a perfect fit for my new vanity. Although they are not from the same line of AllModern, the white oak finish is identical, giving them a completely cohesive look.

Technically, this cabinet is designed to be wall-mounted, but due to the layout and the overhead lighting we selected, our contractor installed the cabinet so that it is slightly recessed into the wall. I love the subtle black trim around the edges and the small wooden shelf underneath.

skylight

skylight

As you know, Em is a big skylight girl and so are we. I already have a large one installed in the kitchen and another one above the stairs. I am so grateful that the previous owner installed it for me. When we started our renovation, skylights weren’t at the top of our list, but we knew we wanted to add them to the bathroom, especially since we thought it would have a big impact on the women’s bathroom, which we plan to open next week. The installation ended up being a bit out of order due to installer availability. As you can imagine, summer in Oregon is a busy time for skylight construction. By the time they got inside, the toilet was almost finished. I didn’t want to make any major structural changes, so I chose a small skylight for the vanity area. Even just that small skylight The difference from the existing windows was dramatic. Thank you Velux!

If you remember from my mood board, I originally planned to put two lights on the side of the medicine cabinet. However, once all the final measurements were taken (again, I’m not much of a numbers person, oops!), it became clear that the side-mounted light wasn’t going to fit. So I decided to install the fixture above the mirror. I couldn’t be more pleased with both the look and the light. On that note, I’m a strong believer that all light switches should be dimmers, even in the bathroom. Yes, this is dimmable and I really like it. Especially on dark winter mornings, I find it very difficult to wake up.

I know it was a hot topic in the Riverhouse Game Room comments last week, so it’s worth noting. I created Photoshop from an electrical outlet behind my bathroom vanity. I promise, I have no intention of deceiving anyone. We didn’t think much about ordering the cute outlet until it was too late. The plates we installed were quite large and white, which didn’t really fit with the overall feel of the space. I didn’t realize it until the work was completed. Again, this is my first time designing a bathroom, so I made a few mistakes. Finally, in the photo, some of the makeup styles were distracting, pulling the eyes a little too much. Ideally I would have installed an outlet on the wall to the right of the sink, but the new pocket door placement made that impossible. All I have to say is, I’m sorry if you’re disappointed not to see them, but they weren’t very pretty.

This is the view of the bathroom from the bedroom. There is no doubt that we wanted to create a sense of unity in the bathroom. kelly ventura wallpaper We chose it for the bedroom.

Here’s a pretty exciting before and after example.

This completes our main bathroom, which is no longer builder grade. many thanks all modern We appreciated the beautiful bathroom fixtures that really brought everything together. Also, a big thank you to Emily. Thank you for your guidance and for entrusting me with this task. And thank you to Ken (Em’s brother), Nick and Ben for their hard work. in front!

Come back next week for a fun little reveal of my daughter’s bathroom!
