Nominees may receive awards for their hard work and dedication in the film industry, but they don’t actually take home the awards at the end of the night, when Wolfgang Puck Catering serves up delicious food at the Oscar Governor’s Ball. This year marks the 32nd year that the culinary mogul has fed approximately 1,500 guests at a special after-party held at Hollywood’s Ray Dolby Ballroom. And yes, we got a sneak peek at all the innovative food dishes featured on celebrities.
This is the third year I’ve had the opportunity to walk through a room that will soon be filled with some of my favorite actors and actresses. They had gone hours without food and were hungry after the awards ceremony. Puck has mini cheeseburgers, macaroni and cheese, vegan sushi, tomahawk steak, chicken pot pie, chicken Caesar pizza and more waiting for you, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. After trying quite a few classic appetizers and sweets, here are some gourmet discoveries and cocktails that we’ve decided are award-winning.

Wolfgang Puck’s son, Byron Puck, shows us the beauty of the new ice cream, sorbet and gelato stations, all made from scratch. The device is continuously stirred, so the dessert stays really “silky”, “light” and “velvety” all night long, creating the perfect temperature and consistency.
Salmon crackers

Every year, Puck serves Oscar-shaped smoked salmon crackers topped with caviar.

At Bar Tequila Don Julio, mixologists Lorenzo Antinori (owner of Bar Leone, ranked second on the 2024 World’s 50 Best Bars list) and Charles Joly create the Golden Cut Margarita (finished with toasted baby corn) and Best in Show (a refreshing cocktail made with vermouth, tequila, elderflower liqueur, cucumber syrup, and more). Behind the bar, where iconic cocktails such as
chocolate oscar

My favorite part of the preview is always munching on the mini golden chocolate Oscar Man. This Oscar Man is made of 70% dark chocolate and coated with a combination of lemon extract, gold powder, and triple sec. Plus, Puck’s Executive Pastry Chef Garry Larduinat let me spray some for myself, so that was certainly an exciting moment for me.
Alcohol

For the second year in a row, guests can pursue a sake station filled with 23 blue varieties from the Japanese brand Dassai. Since it only contains 23% rice, it is surprisingly mellow and high-quality.

What better way to end the experience than sharing a laugh with Wolfgang and his son while eating a juicy steak?
