How To Choose Paint Colors That Are Happy But Not Too Bold – The Full River House Paint Color Palette

If you like the big macro of “How to Make Sausages”, this is for you. The direction of the art of this house was quite clear from the beginning four years ago. The intention was to create a warm and modern home that is kind to the family. It resembles a mountain house, but comes in more colours. When you live in sunny Southern California, you can escape with lots of white walls. And when I say “color,” we brought more tones for this house – neither big nor bold. Of course, a pink bedroom might be bold for you, but it’s not bold for us 🙂 We’ve partnered Sherwin Williams This home has an incredible assortment of very high quality paint colors, many of which have relied on many times in the past. I’m obsessed with this colour palette and have used it over and over again.

Choose the right white…

Living room/Kitchen/Dining area/Carrior – Alabaster SW 7008

From: River House Move-In Tour

I found my new favorite white!!!! If you’ve ever gone crazy staring at a billion different white tones that look the same as non-experts, you’re not alone. This is why designers have a go-to white guy to use over and over again. Well, I found mine. We were obsessed with this white at the right time – we chose 10 Peel and Stick Samplesat different times of the day, stabbing them all over the house into different walls, staring at him like a psychopath. Finally I chose Alabaster SW 7008. Very balanced white – slightly warmer, not yellow, but warmer on the taupe side (but don’t get me wrong, this woman is white). There is an 84 LRV. In other words, it reflects a lot of light. The wooden floor looked great. This was almost important as it was in all the open spaces that this colour flows together. Yes, I really had to really like this white. The point is, if you want a new white, I think this is a bit universally good, but I think it still has a slightly warm undertone.

Rocky River SW 6215 It was the first paint color we chose and we all immediately liked it. It was actually our favorite. I didn’t need a hem or hawk and moved easily. thrilling! It is still subtle, fantastic and dark green, shocking. Technically, there are plenty of green/gray undertones and green with a reflective value of 15 (and therefore not reflecting light well). It looked very beautiful on the white oak floor.

I’m peering into my favorite room, the game room. This room is covered in wood and I wanted it to pop on the cabinets and shelves a bitbut it’s not a star. So we chose a neutral tone. We wanted to bring out the light tone of the wood, not to turn pink, yellow or brown. It was tough!! The labor to paint custom cabinets is so expensive, so that was exactly what we wanted (normal drywalls can be easily DIYed, but the cabinets are specific). Malabar SW 9110 It’s a light taupe, and they call it “sand-beach beige” with a slightly yellow undertone and a 54 LRV.

This room is intended to be a darker, cozy hideaway for the family/TV room, but still there are plenty of windows so you can actually get plenty of natural light. So the trick of this is to choose one that has the undertone you love, but there aren’t that many pigments so that the light is too bold. For example, I used it in a family room Still water SW 6223perfect in our dark, low light rooms, but the same colour in the brightly lit room would be very bold and screaming. So we had to choose the colours that looked cozy in the dark, but they are lovely in the light – Input Evergreen Fog SW 9130. This was Sherwin Williams Color of the Year a few years ago, and you can see why. There are lots of green, brown, blue and very flexible undertones. We say we tried a sample of it at Brian’s office, and it only reads as grey there and is a small window that provides natural light during the day. It is a color that gives more movement with little natural light. But here it’s a really attractive green/gray neutral that everyone reacts very positively.

I wanted to use it Studio Blue Green SW 0047 For a long time – it’s very good. Frank’s room (my nephew) is on the south side of the house and is engulfed in a rather dark light despite its two windows. So we embraced the comfort and drew this dark blue/green (and the ceiling). It’s a very high impact, whilst the eyes are oddly soft. I can’t wait to decorate this room (next!).

I wasn’t planning on using the same warm pink twice, but I accidentally chose it again because it was so good. Cocoa Berry SW 9078 It’s in my powder bath and I love it – very soothing and charming. It’s very uterine-like in the best way, and the dominant reason that this room is the place everyone wants to go when they need time alone or take a sick day. Incredibly cozy and warm. 10/10 This color.

Once I saw these cabinets painted this colour, I vowed to use them somewhere in the house. Eventide SW 9643 It’s very calm and calm, with the perfect amount of blue/green and grey. It is read as light blue, but not baby or powder blue. Sometimes it becomes impossible to get the correct blue/gray blue, but this is very pretty.

If you’re in a good navy market, this is great as this is more complicated than your typical “dark navy”. Rain Cloud SW 9639 Cut it in a grey enough so it’s deep and rich, then not bright.

Despite using blue, green and pink, the whole house flows very well. Warm white was a through line (as with all wood), and we pulled the same color from the paint and connected it to all fabrics, textiles and art. I’m so excited to show you all the style shots. Thank you to Sherwin-Williams for partnering with this project. It takes a long time and technically not complete, but the colors are dialed and I love all of them.
