Here’s How to Mix Cabinet Front Styles in Your Kitchen

I have not remodeled the kitchen myself yet, but I know that many other people will remodel theirs. You can manage all the basic decisions and budget balances, especially if you don’t have a design background or employed designer. In that case, all of that decision fatigue will not necessarily leave enough space to implement more habits and creative things. One of these creative (and potentially budget friendly) decisions is to mix up the front style of the cabinet. Of course, it doesn’t suggest that all other doors are in a different style. However, if you have an upper, a small cabinet corner, etc., you may be able to switch a bit and make your kitchen more unique. Let me show you what I really mean.

Recently I wrote about this house above, and all the amazing uses of large art. He also mentioned the mixing of the cabinet front style. The island and main cooking counters both have thin, beaded cabinet fronts, with flat panels in tall cabinets (probably fridge?) on either side of the kitchen. It’s a bit subtle until you turn it on the clock, and it just makes the kitchen even more interesting. This kitchen has influenced this whole post! If you’re in the market for kitchen remodeling ideas, here are some examples/options:)

This feels like the most common/classic “Style Mixing” combo – Shaker Cabinet + Flat Drawer Front. It’s classic and a bit fun for the eyes, and I wonder if it’s a “easy” way to save money. The front of a flat panel cabinet is generally more affordable than any other decorative option. Of course, it depends on the material you want to use 🙂

Cabinet Front Style

That’s actually what Emily did in her kitchen!

Next is this really beautiful example of the front of a painted beadboard cabinet and the front of a flat panel drawer made of natural wood. It is in the same “traditional” world as the shaker cabinet/flat panel drawers, but it stands out a little more. It’s a truly warm and charming version of “modern tradition.”

I think I’m also a fan of Sarah Shaman Samuel, a similar combo, a kitchen cabinet front enthusiast and designer! In two separate kitchens, she implemented this fun beadboard and mini shaker combo. Bead boards for the top cabinet and mini shakers for the bottom cabinet and drawers. She also played in a completely different style of the island, but that’s not what we’re focusing on now 🙂 Also, how sweet is the small cutout hole in the upper kitchen on the left? Another small idea that reminds you is optional.

Another very common option is that the island cabinets are different from wall cabinets. It is also an easy way to bring in different cabinet colours and wood tones.

Ah, I love this example. The wall cabinets and the “most” fronts of the island are the same. However, the cabinets above these along the walls are really great and balance the overall design. Brass speaks to the hardware, and dark tone speaks to the dark island. In other words, you will never miss Zoefeldman’s designs. I don’t think this “saves” money, but it’s special and will catch your eye.

If you want to learn a little more decoration in front of you, but are afraid that your kitchen will look “too much”, make some of them easy like Meta! It’s similar to a flat drawer/shaker cabinet combo, but instead heads towards the front of the raised panel drawer/decorative raised panel cabinet.

I think it’s a two-tone wall in a flat panel cabinet at first, so I love the subtle mix of this (so beautiful), but looking at the island (with the same wood as the low-walled wood), there are modern raised panels. It’s very simple, but this space makes you feel very intentional and special.

Maybe you love the singular type front (like the flat panel), but you really confuse the hardware and colors, and feel the upper and degradation are very different, but it still comes together. I know that this bold colour is too much for some people, but wow, at least beautiful to look at. The addition of that rich tiled backsplash is fantastic. Previously, if you scroll to the next slide it is wild.

Such an elegant example mixes modern with a more traditional/russy atmosphere. The paneled wall cabinets are warm and fresh, and its amazing modern island creates the perfect tension. However, the handles are the same, so it’s easy to blend.

This post is not intended to put pressure on a high pressure project already. But if you’re looking for ideas and inspiration that don’t necessarily require a super custom job, I hope this helps…and it’s fun.

Love you and it means it.
