Although the bear itself is discounted, Costumes and accessories are sold separately, so you will need to spend additional money on those items. Also note that the discount only applies to special birthday bears (pictured above, options may vary by store) and not to in-store creatures.
If you take your child to a Build-A-Bear Workshop during their birthday month, you simply pay an amount equivalent to your child’s age for a birthday treat bear.
No need to go to the store on your child’s actual birthday. As long as you go somewhere during your child’s birthday month, you’ll be fine.

Can I choose a different bear or stuffed animal for my Build-A-Bear candle count?
The Build-A-Bear Count Your Candles program only accepts Birthday Treat Bears. The regular retail price for this bear is $14. This bear cannot be replaced with any other stuffed animal. So if your child is interested in another teddy bear, unicorn, bunny, or other stuffed animal, know that they are not eligible for the promotion.
Can I reserve Build-A-Bear Count Your Candles online?
This promotion is valid in-store only. Be sure to call the store before your visit to confirm that the birthday bear is in stock. Availability may vary by store, so if it’s out of stock, the store may offer you another option or you may receive the Build-A-Bear Pay Your Age benefit even if it’s past your child’s birthday month. We may offer you the option of visiting at another time to honor your visit.
If you have multiple children sharing the same birth month, please specify the quantity when you call to ensure we have enough birthday treat bears in stock.
How do I prove my age for the Build-A-Bear Count Your Candles discount?
Importantly, you do not need to provide your child’s ID or proof of age. When you and your child go to the store, tell them you’re celebrating a birthday (which birthday?) and that you’d like to participate in the Count Your Candles promotion.
Does Build-A-Bear offer age discounts online?
Not available online. Sold exclusively at Build-A-Bear Workshop stores and outlets. However, you can purchase bear clothing and accessories in-store or online, but that is a separate cost and is not part of the birthday promotion.

The first time was in 2018, when demand far exceeded supply and staffing, leading to store closures. The event was revived in 2019, but the number of “tickets” was limited and distributed through a lottery. The event was also held over several days to avoid crowding. And in 2020, the Pay Your Age event was canceled due to the pandemic and hasn’t been seen since. However, Build-A-Bear hosts a number of in-store events. What is the Build-A-Bear Bonus Club?
Build-A-Bear Bonus Club is a loyalty rewards program that is free to join. Earn points on every purchase and redeem them for rewards (earn 1 point for every dollar spent and earn $10 in rewards for every 100 points you earn). Plus, get early access and special offers. You can also participate in various events such as the No Line Online Sale.
This program automatically enrolls you in the Find-A-Bear ID program. This allows you to assign an ID barcode to your bear, which can be scanned if it is lost (or returned).
When you check out in-store with your birthday bear, you’ll need to share your account details, including your email address and Bonus Club account number.

Can I host my child’s birthday at Build-A-Bear?
