Throughout the year, I regularly answer money and budget questions. If you have any questions you like to answer in future posts, please send them here.

This week’s questions are:

“I was looking for part-time jobs that I could do from home as a supplemental income for my family. My husband and I both work full time. We have two children (we have special needs) and are trying to get out of debt. I would like to find out what I can do from home a few hours a week to help with this. I love reading and have the skills to proofread and edit, so if I can find something along these lines, it’s great. I’ve done some research and honestly it’s hard to know where to start looking. I want to check
Go with the right thing, but struggle to find the right thing. Is there any insight into this? ” -Carey M.

You can make money from home

I’m so glad you reached out to me, Carrie! First, I just want to say that I fully understand where you came from. So many moms find out exactly where they are. I want to juggle multiple responsibilities and make a little extra money, I don’t know where to start.

Good news? You are definitely can Find something flexible, fulfilling and legitimate. And based on what you share, you are already more qualified than you think!

Let’s break this down a bit.

You don’t need to understand it all – just start!

It’s completely normal to feel unsure at first. There are so many options, it’s hard to know what’s legal. But if you can give yourself permission to start small and go one step at a time, you will start to see the door open.

You said you enjoy reading and have the skills to proofread and edit. It’s a great foundation! There is an entire industry that relies on people who look to detail and love for language.

  • Freelance proofreading and editing
  • Transcription
  • Virtual assistant work (often includes content or email proofreading)
  • Blog or Social Media Content Reviews

All of these are roles and scale up (or down) you can do from home depending on availability.

Start with what you can (not what you know what you should do)

You (or someone else reading this) may be thinking: There is no formal training. Who will hire me? But here’s the problem. Opportunities from many jobs do not require a flashy resume.

They demand people like:

  • Reliable
  • communication
  • It’s tidy
  • I’m happy to learn

That sounds like youright?

In fact, in me Working from home blueprint coursewe talk about how many women can disqualify themselves before they begin. However, all the skills used to raise children with special needs, manage households, and work full-time are marketable skills. They show you that you are responsible, paying attention to detail and that you can handle the pressure. Employer love that!

Become strategic over your time

Your time is very limited, so focus on options that are flexible and do not require large time commitments in advance. Some ideas to explore:

  • Join the freelance platform Like Upwork, Fiveror Proofreadingservices.com Provides editing skills
  • Contact bloggers and small businesses Those who need part-time editing or proofreading help
  • Find a transcription work From companies like Rev, Certifieror Transcription
  • Consider starting a side hustle Proofreading self-published author or online course creator (there is a growing need here!)

You don’t need to commit 20 hours a week. Even just 3-5 hours can help you move the needle financially.

Do you need a clear step-by-step plan?

If you’re not sure where to start (or what’s out there), I highly recommend checking out the course.

What is the fact that you are intentional about your next step? It is a beautiful sign of hope.

You don’t need to know everything today. Just start. Even if it’s messy. Even if it’s small. That’s the beginning of all the best journeys.

We support you at every stage!
