I found myself in a room with a skyline view on the 12th floor of The Dominick. This is an upscale 5-star hotel in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood (in fact, it’s the only one with AAA Five Diamond designation). What sparked this spontaneous staycation? Dominick’s latest partnership with jewelry designer Alexis Bitter’s namesake label, which has accompanied Michelle Obama, Dua Lipa, Kylie Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Angelina Jolie and countless others to every event over the years, including A-list photo shoots and the Met Gala.
Now I was seeing Alexis Vitale’s most beloved work with my own eyes. Not only that, but they were something I enjoyed long after I rode the subway home. This serendipitous collaboration runs until June 1st and is available by booking a stay at The Dominick (don’t forget to request the Alexis Bitter experience) At the hotel direct sales site).

The first thing that struck me about the limited-time activation was how organically it fit. All Dominics feature floor-to-ceiling windows, soaking tubs, rooftop pools, and moody light fixtures. In other words, the 46-story building is peppered with elements that exude an upscale, sophisticated energy while avoiding any hint of ostentation. There’s a reason Dominick’s guest suites are considered “residential style.” It’s so spacious and well-equipped (including Fendi Casa furniture, Diptyque shower essentials, and marble bathroom floors) that you forget you’re spending the night in one of the world’s busiest cities.
Alexis Bittar isn’t your average jewelry maker either. Bitter, a Brooklyn native, began creating his hero line, the Lucite Collection, in 1990. Soon after, his designs were featured in Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Harrods, and other major retailers. In the decades since, Bitter has had no shortage of creative collaborators, including Burberry, Michael Kors, Mugler and London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. What ties all these businesses together is Bittar’s traditional biomorphic and avant-garde design codes. In addition to Lucite, we also use many other semi-precious stones and metals, making each piece an easy choice for red carpet celebrities (and anyone looking to make an elegant first impression).

I witnessed the magic firsthand with the Asterales Gold Floating Collar Necklace, the Petite Scissor Clutch in a timeless merlot hue, and the Gold Small Molten Bangle Bracelet. When I arrived, everything was already waiting for me in the hotel room. It was beautifully wrapped and placed inside a gift bag. Instantly, I felt extremely luxurious. It felt like receiving room service of champagne and caviar, only in the form of accessories. We weren’t celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or work victory this time, but if you have a special reason for a trip to New York (or a self-care staycation), a gift-giving moment is an easy complement to any of these occasions.

I immediately put on the 14-carat gold-plated necklace (and who doesn’t?) and noticed that its most distinctive feature was the central crystal that seemed to float between my collarbones. The collar reflected light beautifully and was flexible enough to adjust to the size of the neck. Weighing just 25 grams, the wearable object is easy to pack to make a statement on the go, whether you’re traveling for work or play. Paired with a bangle that has a lot to offer, including molten metalwork and stackable sizes, Alexis Bitter’s bestseller felt like a million bucks while munching on a poke bowl of sweet and spicy chicken and yellowfin tuna at El Tacoy, a Hawaiian restaurant on the grounds of The Dominicus.

When it comes to shoulder bags, I’ve never seen anything so surreal yet so approachable. Shiny synthetic scissors are attached to the shiny genuine leather. This may be every love-phobe’s nightmare, but it’s also every style-savvy woman’s dream. There was enough space inside the handbag for my phone and wallet, and the removable leather strap meant I could carry it freely as a clutch as I strutted down 6th Avenue.
