Last Saturday we celebrated our annual family Christmas. This is a tradition I started 6 years ago (I think?) because I usually leave town during Christmas week to visit extended family. This is one of our family’s favorite seasons!

First, we started with the breakfast that the children made. This year it was pancakes, eggs, bacon, brown sugar biscuit twists, fruit, tater tots, and orange juice.

Next, open your presents. Do one at a time in order of age. Micah and Kirsten were thrilled with their gifts (they each received four gifts), especially their bows and arrows.
One of the big highlights of the day was David was so excited to open his presents that he actually opened them and then carried them around and played with them for an hour. He had never shown much interest in opening presents before, so this was a huge milestone.

After the presents we spent the rest of the day together. We did the puzzles Kathryn gave us, the kids played with their presents, ate snacks, played football, watched shows, and just were together. I took that moment and decided not to think about cleaning up until the next day.

We were so happy to have Will (Kathryn’s boyfriend), Emma (Kathryn’s roommate and best friend), RJ (Caitlin’s boyfriend), and Isabelle (our longtime friend) join us for our special morning!

Jesse and the three older kids gave me the best presents for Christmas (I didn’t make a list, so their presents were a complete surprise, and they did a great job of choosing things I really liked!!)
Silas bought me these Adidas – a first for me, I think? He buys me a nice pair of shoes every Christmas and has great shoe taste!! He was very worried that I wouldn’t know how to style these, but so far he has approved of the way I wear them. I love these and have worn them many times already.

Caitlin gave this to me. A high-quality bread knife called a bread bow! My homemade bread play has taken to a new level!! If you want to make homemade bread, buy this!! It’s so much fun to use and allows you to cut perfect bread slices.
Katherine got me this vintage puzzle She has one and she loves it (and has already started it!) because it combines two things I love: puzzles and travel! Plus, it’s brightly colored and so fun to put together!
jesse got me this bread box I was so excited because it helps keep my bread fresher and my kitchen more organized.
he is me again Handmade bread bags from Etsy sellers (If you know me, you know I love supporting small businesses!) To store my sourdough bread!
And finally, Jesse bought me this sweatshirt from Etsy.Well, I couldn’t love it more! I guess you could say I’m fully in the sourdough era.
I have big plans for several different sourdough products that I hope to complete next year. It brings me great joy and it’s a win-win because my family gets to eat the fruits of my hobby.
We will be in Kansas this week celebrating Christmas with both of our extended families. I look forward to creating many special memories with them!
I hope you have a truly special Christmas this year. If you are worried about Christmas this year, Read this article I wrote last Christmas. I hope it will really encourage your heart.

Christmas is a reminder that Hope quietly entered the world and changed everything.
It’s not a day.
It’s not one season.
However, in daily life.
May that truth shape how we live, love, and show up throughout the year.
