Well, I think this is where I officially introduce myself to you, EHD readers! You have seen many photos I took and saw the makeovers of my basement, bedroom and living room where our girl, Emily, helped us so much with our designs. And you may have seen a small bit of my face in some of the team retreat photos/videos. I’m not an official EHD employee, but I had so much fun being part of this team.

Us! Before Sweet Marley joined the team at Todos Santos, Mexico last spring.

In 2021, my family and I made a big move from the East Side of Portland to the West Side. More space/more yards/slower lifestyle etc. At the same time, both Emily and my mutual friends, Max Humphreyintroduced us both. The Hendersons rental house (while the farmhouse was being renovated) was near me. We lived so close that Max thought Emily and I should be friends 🙂 She’s a bit of a 7 minute door-to-door drive while she’s no longer up the street from me. Over the past few years it has been a pretty amazing little partnership/friendship.

Emily gave us a little bit of our home in the previous public offering, but in a review, our home was built in 1962 and we are the second owner. Previous owners probably made some (somewhat suspicious) updates in the 90s/early 2000s. However, when we moved we still made some pretty big and necessary modifications. We start by drawing everything white and slowly add more colour and character with the help of Emily.

Bathroom

We made some pretty big changes early, but the money and patience were dry, but we were fine. I had it OK, put the bathroom on the back burner and know very well that one day they need some serious love.

Primary

This is what the main bathrooms look like on the day we bought our home. And really, before the contractor demonstrated it a few weeks ago, it still looked exactly like it was four years later! I had zero desire to do a quick makeover “in the meantime.” I didn’t want to replace the hardware, paint the cabinets, or hang new towel bars. I didn’t want to waste a dollar to improve this space. (I’m a boring penny pincher in my family, can you say?) Honestly, aside from being small, that’s fine. Do you want us to be insane by peeling out light fixtures outside the center, shower tile grouts that don’t actually get clean, and linoleum floors? of course. However, our previous 1905 East Side home has one small bathroom downstairs and outside the kitchen, so there is a “private suite” that feels as is and feels very luxurious. If we saved, we knew what we “someday” As the modifications will be made in the end, I felt it was unnecessary to invest in this space anytime.

Before the demo begins, there are a few more photos:

Children

On the other side of our bathroom wall is my daughter’s bathroom. I say luxury again. Because I shared a very small bathroom where my parents and siblings grew up. This space has not been touched in four years. When my girl was little, during the bath time when she was playing nail salons and doing crazy morning dashes to go to school, I actually spent more time in this bathroom than I did. I had the urge to do some of these little updates in this bathroom…and eventually dissipated. Ultimately, linoleum is still linoleum, and out-of-center lighting is still out-of-center. The time and resources for small updates made no sense to me.

If it’s not very obvious from these photos, these bathrooms will be small. Expanding the overall footprint is not a financial option, so the best thing we can do is make them more functional and cleaner. Miss Henderson is coming 🙂

The whole situation We contacted Emily about the partnership a few months ago and we all felt this would be a great opportunity to finally make some updates. They have a huge selection of washroom items, from vanity to lighting and plumbing. It’s a one-stop store.

To be very honest with you, the bathroom cut me down and designed. Everything is felt (and yes!) and is very permanent. I had a hard time really knowing what I wanted in our main bathroom. I pulled so many great works images from the Allmodern site, but I couldn’t get the cohesive design that felt like we did. But then, late at night between the scrolls of destiny, I saw my friend and incredible prop stylist/designer here in Portland, Karie HigginsI posted a photo of the beautiful bathroom Binna For a towel. This led me to the Baina website, where I fell in love with their one color scheme. Stack of towelsand the rest is history.

Once I decided on a colour I liked, everything else started to fall into place. I found this gorgeous White Oak Vanity And I paired it with this Medicine Cabinet.

It was also sold quite a bit on both the floor and the shower on both the blue square tiles. I quickly pulled out all the samples we had collected when we redo the fireplace and ordered more bundles. We finally landed this nicely Light blue tile that Fireclay He is generously talented. Use 2×2 squares for the floor and 4×4 squares for the shower.

This is the mood board I sent to Emily a few months ago. Honestly, I wanted her to dislike it. At that point I was completely sold. Good news: she loved it too.

Move to the kids’ bath…

Making decisions for their bathroom felt a little easier than ours. We knew we didn’t want to go to “little girls” here. My daughter is almost 5 and 8 years old, so now it’s very easy to get hooked and design for her age. We still wanted it to be fun, but hopefully the bathrooms they enjoy when they’re in teens.

We found this beautifully Vanity And combined it with a big incorporation Mirror/Drug Cabinet.
Fireclay was kind enough to give tiles to both primary buses and For our girls bathroom. We use this gorgeous 2×2 creamy colour Square tiles For the floor, do 4×4 patterns for the tub walls in this fun. Warm yellow and Pale pink. The tiles were ordered with the intention of doing a checker pattern, but are you fond of the checker and wondering if the stripes are clean instead?

And that’s where we stand today! The demonstration began a few weeks ago and the crew (thank you, in front! ) is plugged in together. The tiles should start next week or so. I’m excited to share the finished product with you in the coming weeks 🙂
