7 Simple Rhythms That Bring More Peace to Our Home

Have you ever felt that your home is nothing more than a mess, mess, and a huge cycle of things to do that never seems to be over? I know how easy it is to feel like I’m sliding down with the blur of laundry, plates, and scattered toys. Sometimes you feel like you’re barely maintaining your head on the water, as you’re constantly being cleaned up, but don’t actually feel it end.

On InstagramI have been talking about the small, simple changes that have brought peace and order to our home. For us, I have discovered that small, simple, sustainable change can bring such peace and order to our homes. Over the years I have developed many of these systems. And many of these systems are not running without me even realizing it.

Today I wanted to share seven simple rhythms that make such a difference in our home. These are small, intentional habits (no flashy to catch up). However, these things make us feel overwhelmed by how life is A little messy and confused, more peacefully.

And the best part? You can start these today.

Simple family rhythm:

Here are seven simple shifts that work for us:

1. Touch things once

This was a game changer for us. Instead of shifting things from one place to another or creating a mini mountain that appears to be left for days, I try to stick to the “touch once” rule. How does this work:

  • Junk mail? Straighten to trash and shredder.
  • garbage? Immediately throw away garbage and recycling.
  • laundry? Stain handles it (if necessary) and place it in the washing machine correctly.
  • Email? Please answer immediately if possible. If it’s junk, please delete it! (Or even better, unsubscribe!)
  • mountain? Instead of dropping it on the floor, you put things away.

You won’t save time by moving things to temporary locations or hanging them over your head. Instead, whenever possible, once it’s done.

It’s not messy. There is little chaos. More peace.

2. It’s sorted twice a day

Our homes don’t always look perfect, but one small habit that has helped me a lot is our two days of tidying up. The kids pitch and we all try to spend just 10 minutes after breakfast and 10 minutes before we clean up our main living space.

  • It’s about organizing things in the morning and after breakfast.
  • At night we reset the space, so we wake up to less confusion.

It’s amazing how smooth the day will be when you start with a clean slate. And there’s nothing better than waking up to a messy living room and kitchen! Also, if someone stops in, you can open the door without running away, pretending not to be home, or hiding or pretending to be there!

3. Stick to your budget

I know, I know – I know. Stick to your budget It simplified our lives in more ways than I could count. We have been writing budgets since day one, and it gives us clarity and confidence in our decisions.

Here’s what budgeting did for us:

  • Simplified daily spending choices
  • Improved financial communication
  • Helped me to achieve my goal
  • It gave me generous freedom

If you’ve never tried budgeting, it’s one of the easiest ways to bring more orders to your home and life. It’s also one of the best ways to reduce financial stress!

You can use me Free Printable Budget Spreadsheet If you want to try budgeting, but don’t know where and how to get started.

4. Few shopping

It’s easy: the less you have, the less you need to manage. Before buying a new one, I always try to ask:

  • Do you really need this?
  • Can I use what I already have?

Satisfaction is not about having more, but about evaluating what you already have. If you shop less and concentrate on using what you already own, it will reduce clutter, bring more order and simplify your life. Plus, it’s fun to be creative and use what you already have!

5. Keep your donation bin on hand

The garage has its own donation bin, but it’s hard to tell you how easy it is to keep the mess at bay. If something is not used or brings joy, it will straighten into the bottle.

I don’t even have to think about it. When the bottle is full, it is donated. There are fewer decisions, there are fewer piles.

6. Run the dishwasher every day

This may sound simple, but it is a lifesaver for children. Cooking can grow at the speed of lightning, especially if you are at home all day. Running a dishwasher every night means:

  • I will no longer wake up to a pile of dirty dishes
  • Easy to clean during the day
  • One less scary thing

Starting the day with clean cooking is an underrated luxury that brings more peace to our mornings. (You can do the same thing with one piece of laundry a day!)

7. Clean your wallet and fridge every week

It’s a small thing, but it makes a huge difference. Once a week, I try to quickly clean my wallet and fridge.

  • wallet: Throw old receipts, crumpled snacks, and things that don’t belong.
  • refrigerator: Check out the leftovers that need to be tossed, organize the shelves, and note down what you need for the week. We also recommend that you run out of leftovers and reuse what you may have forgotten!

The extra 5 or 10 minutes it takes to reset these spaces will bring you an amazing sense of calm.

Small habits, big differences

Here it is: small habits are summed up. Having these simple shifts into part of your routine makes life feel lighter. There’s less confusion, less stress, and more room for things that really matter.

If you’re ready to bring a little more peace to your home, start with just one of these. Test it for a week to see how you feel.
