It’s safe to say this year’s Oscars were chock-full of buzzy moments — from Zoe Saldaña‘s tearjerking award acceptance speech to Adrien Brody‘s gum toss — and stunning outfit ensembles alike. Sheer dresses dominated; Timothée Chalamet put butter yellow front and center; and silver tones (a perfect representative of which was Halle Barry’s mirrored Christian Siriano gown) provided flashiness beyond the cameras. Perhaps even more spectacular was the sheer amount of “great hair days” spotted on the Oscars 2025 red carpet, which seemed to be in fluent conversation with the stars’ fashions of the evening.
As soon as tastemakers hit the red carpet last night, our WWD beauty editors started thorough research of the hair essentials and tools used by celebrity hairstylists to achieve styles spanning from wave-forward bobs to tiara buns. We were delighted to find out that many were the exact products which ranked high on our shopping guides of the best hair styling tools (including the best dryers and flat irons), the greatest hair products of all time, and beyond. What’s more, these top tools have hundreds of five-star reviews and can be shopped at your favorite retailers (hi, Sephora and Ulta!).
Some hair styling gadgets, like the newly released AirLight Pro dryer from L’Oréal, were also ones we’ve personally reviewed for weeks and months at a time. The most popular hair devices used on the celebrities at the 2025 Academy Awards work to boost volume at the press of a button, create smoothness where before there was frizz, and bypass heat damage while accentuating natural textures: all things which are wanted not only during high-profile events like the Oscars but also in everyday life.
Whether you’re looking to replicate Selena Gomez‘s flyaway-free and polished pin curls, Demi Moore‘s slightly wavy strands inspired by her 2000s Vogue cover shoot, or Felicity Jones’ slicked-back bun, the below hair styling tools will help get you Hollywood’s best hair. They’re absolute winners, no statuette needed.

Top Three Celeb-approved Hair Tools at the 2025 Oscars
Shark FlexFusion 5-in-1 Air Styler Straightener + Brush Set
Released in October 2024, Shark’s FlexFusion styler tool was a heavy hitter at the 2025 Academy Awards — serving as beauty assistance for the “Best Actress” winner Mikey Madison’s timelessly elegant hairstyle, Gabrielle Union’s über-romantic ‘do that accentuated her collarbones, and Sydney Sweeney’s flowing blonde tresses. The vast range of these styles highlights the FlexFusion’s versatility, which is why it earned a spot on our list of the best Shark beauty products. Equipped with a styling concentrator, two auto-wrap curlers, a straightener, and a round brush, owning this top styling tool unlocks a whole new range of hair possibilities: like adding after-shower bounce, going for a stick-straight blowout moment, or else ensuring bangs become sleek and frizz-free in a flash.
WWD Shop’s Senior beauty and lifestyle commerce editor Claire Sullivan raved about this Shark offering’s ability to work with both wet and dry hair — allowing you to significantly cut down on the duration of your morning routine — and the fact that it’s the just-right thing to use in between wash days to give your locks a bit more oomph. It’s a true choose-your-own-adventure tool, based on the fact that the FlexFusion comes in four different configurations (two with a straightener attachment, for curly or straight hair, and two without the straighteners, also for curly or straight hair) as well as a build-your-own option.
On the Oscars red carpet, Sydney Sweeney’s stylist Glen Coco (not to be mistaken with the Mean Girls character, by the way!) used the FlexFusion Styling Concentrator to rough-dry her hair before moving on to the Wet or Dry Fusion Brush for the kind of smoothness that turns heads and makes next-day headlines. The bounce on the ends of her hair was also courtesy of the tool’s concentrator, and Coco applied Shark’s FlexFusion Straightener Attachment as the last step to lock in all that newfound volume and silk-like shine. Gabrielle Union’s updo — particularly that wavy, face-framing fringe — was the result of the tool’s auto-wrap curlers, used by celebrity hairstylist Larry Sims. Last but not least, Mikey Madison’s award-winning hair was also blowed out with the Wet or Dry Fusion Brush by hairstylist Rena Calhoun. “The Wet or Dry Fusion Brush makes blow-drying the hair extremely easy because it eliminates having to use two tools,” Calhoun said in a press release. We couldn’t agree more.

Dyson Corrale Hair Straightener
Named the best cordless straightener on our roundup of the best-ever flat irons, the Dyson Corrale packs quite a punch. One of its standout features is intelligent heat control: regulating the temperature 100 times per second so that you can effectively wave hair damage goodbye. Such damage is also alleviated because of the Corrale’s innovative composition — specifically, its manganese copper alloy plates, which flex to gather hair and thus get to the desired look much faster. The hair styling tool is at its prime when used on small sections of hair, so it can be most appreciated by those with fine or thin locks. No matter your hair type, though, you’ll be absolutely delighted by just how portable the Dyson Corrale is (whether you choose to walk around the house while getting your hair in tip-top shape or else plan on packing this baby away in your carry-on). And though it is technically a straightener, the Corrale can also be whipped out for some curl and waves action. Simply clamp and rotate one full turn for the former and half a turn for the latter.
At this year’s Oscars, it was put to work by celeb hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos when used on his client Demi Moore’s hair. Wanting them to be powerful, timeless, and a nod to Moore’s 2000s Vogue cover shoot, Giannetos curled her strands on a medium setting (at 365 degrees, to be exact). The outcome looked highly natural and retained all the desired sleekness. Selena Gomez, too, benefitted from the magic of the Dyson Corrale at the Oscars; her hairstylist Renato Campora created an elegant look straight out of the pages of Old Hollywood by flat ironing Gomez’s hair strands as a shield against flyaways and frizz. Both celebrities’ hairstylists also took advantage of another Dyson product: the Dyson Supersonic Professional Hair Dryer, whose consumer counterpart was named one of the Greatest Hair Products of All Time by WWD in 2025.

L’Oréal Professionnel AirLight Pro
Looking to emulate Jenna Ortega’s Oscars night hairdo, which looked so effortless that you might never have guessed a hair tool was used to create it at all? Look no further than the L’Oréal Professionnel AirLight Pro, a fresh release that the WWD Shop team already took through rounds of testing. The AirLight Pro is that girl: It boasts infrared rays meant to replicate natural evaporation processes and thereby shorten drying time, diffuser and concentrator attachments (magnetic and auto-detectable) for increasing volume while preserving smoothness, and a compatible app that allows for nitty-gritty personalization based on hair type. The curly-haired among us will be particularly excited to know that drying your locks with it after a shower leads to big, defined, and hydrated curls. Indeed, all signs of frizz go out the window, especially when the AirLight Pro is used in conjunction with your favorite styling cream.
On Jenna Ortega, hairstylist Bobby Eliot utilized the tool’s mighty wind power while blowing out her hair with the help of a round brush for more targeted results. The final ‘do was all sleekness and shine and natural flow — fitting into the overall bohemian direction of her look that evening. “Transparent” actress Hari Nef also had her hair treated to the AirLight Pro’s powers for the Oscars, as hairstylist Gregory Russell used it on a custom setting for securing natural texture. Her wavy tresses and middle part were oh-so-romantic, with a softness you could almost feel. If this doesn’t convince you to snag the already-trendy tool ASAP, we don’t know what will.

More Hair Tools at the 2025 Oscars
FHI Heat The Curve Pro Styling Iron
The beautifully curved, ergonomic design of the FHI Heat The Curve Pro Styling Iron’s body is by far not its best trait. What truly sets it apart from competitors is effortless glide, HydraHeat technology that seals in moisture, and a heat-up time of just 10 seconds. No wonder it was used for the 2025 Oscars awards show, when time is of the essence and every red carpet attendee wants to look as attention-grabbing as possible.
Felicity Jones’ hairstylist Bridget Brager worked to have her hair channel a bit of edge while taking inspiration from the rectilinear nature of the star’s Armani dress. Due to the gown’s high-up neckline, Brager went with an updo (a very common choice this year!), whose movement, texture, and put-together nature she achieved by rocking the flat iron back and forth. Other FHI Heat products used on “The Brutalist” actress included the FHI Heat VersaSphere Pro Air Multi Styler for an initial blowout and the FHI Heat Polisher Pro Air Drying Brush for an extra dose of frizz banishment. We spotted not a single flyaway or unleashed baby hair on Jones that night, so it’s safe to say FHI Heat’s roster of hair offerings lives up to the hype and pays dividends.

ghd Chronos Styler
“Ghd” literally stands for “good hair day,” which is what you’ll be having more of after deciding to invest in the brand’s top-performing Chronos Styler. This is the exact tool that was used by Mitchell Ramazon to craft reality TV star Paige DeSorbo’s sleek-plus-sophisticated hair look for the Vanity Fair party after the Oscars this year. His ultimate goal was a polished, high-gloss finish that still managed to retain movement, and so Ramazon alternated between the ghd Chronos Styler and ghd Curve Soft Curl Iron to create both dimension and a controlled, beveled shape. The resulting style was a trompe l’oeil of sorts — making DeSorbo’s long, almost wet-looking strands seem as three-dimensional as can be. The Chronos Styler’s ceramic floating plates glide seamlessly even through the thickest of manes while locking down the enviable gloss you’ve always wanted your hair to be recognized for. What’s not to love?

Olivia Garden Titanium + Ion Professional Curling Iron
When Lupita Nyong’o‘s hairstylist uses a specific kind of curling iron to give her the dreamiest tiara bun, you run to get that curling iron. The product in question is Olivia Garden’s Titanium + Ion Professional Curling Iron, and it’s a high-quality, high-performing wonder that eliminates static, controls frizz, and provides ever-so-even heat distribution. The one used on Nyong’o specifically had a 1.5-inch barrel, but she wasn’t the only Oscars attendee whose hair got to experience the Olivia Garden treatment. Lily Rose Depp’s mane, too, was curled with the iron’s 1.25-inch manifestation — pulling off perfect, loose ringlets that seemed to be the very definition of the word “flowing.” The A-listers’ hairstylists (Vernon François and Bryce Scarlett, respectively) didn’t just stop at this one Olivia Garden hair tool. They also both used the brand’s Super HP Hair Dryer for damage-free blowouts that were endlessly camera-ready.
