Yesterday, I shared my 25 goals for January. In that post, I mentioned that one of my goals was to learn how to create something new to me, which I wanted to talk about in more detail today.
I set a goal to learn how to make sourdough bread in 2024. I I was so excited I’m happy to report that I not only learned how to make sourdough, but I felt like I got really good at it.
And I went on to learn how to make sourdough pancakes, sourdough waffles, sourdough wing muffins, whole wheat sourdough, and sourdough bagels.
Inspired by the success of sourdough, we also tried making fermented kombucha, sauerkraut, and water kefir. I was never a big fan of kombucha or sauerkraut, but I loved water kefir and made it many times.
This year we have completed French bread and overnight artisan bread!

These successes in the kitchen gave me the idea to set a goal of becoming good at 12 new things by 2025. Most of these are related to food, but not all are disciplines.
I Surveyed viewers on Instagram To get an idea of what I should learn, and take ideas from there, I thought about what inspires me the most and what I really wanted to learn. From that list, I chose 12 things that I would like to learn in 2025. My goal is to focus on one area per month.

My list is:
12 things I want to get better at in 2025
1. Making homemade focaccia (using sourdough)
2. How to make homemade yogurt (I’ve made it in a pot before, but I want to learn how to make it in the Instant Pot and find a recipe that everyone will love!)
3. Make homemade vanilla (can you believe I’ve never made it before??)
4. Making homemade noodles
5. Making homemade mozzarella cheese (honestly, this is the scariest on my list!)
6. Make non-toxic candles
7. Make homemade croissants
8. Make homemade pretzels
9. Making Homemade Silver Dollar City Cinnamon Bread
10. Making homemade lotion
11. Making homemade hamburger buns
12. Making homemade mayonnaise

There are a few other things I want to learn and try. Things like making sourdough bread using mix-ins, making chocolate sourdough bread, and making homemade soap again. However, you can start with the list above and once you feel proficient with what you choose each month, you can try adding something else that isn’t on the list that month.
Documenting what I’m trying, learning, and experimenting with on Instagram stories In more real time, I’ll be sharing parts of my journey in blog posts.
What would you like to learn in 2025? Let me know in the comments!
Coming tomorrow: A list of all the books I read in 2024 + my top 4 favorites!
PS Just for fun, I would like to share a post from 2012 where I set this same goal. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it through that year. A lot of it had to do with choosing things I didn’t really want to do and choosing specific months for each. It was also a time in my life when I was traveling a lot and was exhausted. We sincerely hope for even more success next year!
