Every year, the most searched post on my blog is “work from home mom” or “work from home in Canada.” This was not my path. I always thought I was the kind of girl who worked 9 to 5 or on a set. But once I got a taste of the at-home life, I literally fell in love. Especially during my pregnancy and after giving birth to Ava. Being able to pick her up and drop her off at school and daycare has been a dream come true. And also being able to stay home with her until she was 3.9 months old. So unheard of.
Now that my mom is older, she may be able to volunteer at schools, something I always wanted her to do but couldn’t because of her work schedule. All positives.
The biggest drawback for me is the taxes.
It really makes me anxious and sick to my stomach. If you can, hire a good accountant. Plus, make sure you spend enough money to make sure you get paid instead of taking the money at the end of the year. That’s a whole other story. But if you want to know more, message me.
Three ways to change the way you spend time at home this year.
Try a coworking space
I don’t really miss being in the office, but I won’t lie. There are times or two when I want to change the location. I think a coffee shop is a good example, but I thought a co-working space might be good too. If I’m in the mood… it gives me the opportunity to network with other people. But I don’t have to go if I don’t want to.
Send invoices on time
LOL. I know, I’m not going to go into detail on this one, just being more organized on your phone definitely helps.
Cute Stationery
This one is a bit trickier, but get more of the items that will make your life easier. Maybe I should go to Indigo and buy a new set of stationery. Folders, pens… oh, I need to go to the book store!
Again, being a stay-at-home mom/work-from-home mom isn’t for everyone, and the reality is that it can get lonely at times, but if you’re the type of person who doesn’t mind that and loves being alone, then this might be perfect for you.
