Friendships can be especially hard if you’re an introverted mom, or if you’re a quiet person in general. That said, it’s not that hard for everyone when it comes to new people… Hello extroverts! Before I became a mom, I kept my friendship circle small, but it’s gotten even smaller since Ava was born. It’s important to me that I make friends with kids that Ava can play with.
Here are some ways to make new mom friends:
1. Attend school events
Your child’s school is an ideal place to make mommy friends. You can get to know other moms by dropping off and picking up your kids at school or chatting with them at birthday parties. Note** Sadly, not all moms at school want to be friends, but don’t worry about it**. I recently had a very cute situation where a mom sent a handwritten note home to her daughter to make plans to go out. I love that confidence! We did the same thing last week and it was a lot of fun. I’m going to try doing the same thing with another mom from her class. It will be fun, we’ll get to know each other better, and hopefully we’ll make another friend.
2. Join a Facebook group
Next time you’re online, search for local mom groups on Facebook. Find groups that relate to you and join. Be an active member. Don’t be a lurk. Find people who resonate with your ideas and energy. I’ve connected with some amazing moms there, and even though we’ve never spent time together, it’s nice to have a community around you.
3. Enroll your child in extracurricular activities
So far I’ve enrolled Ava in two dance classes, and to be honest, I’d love to connect and make friends with other moms, but I haven’t been able to do that yet. I’m giving it 100% this time, and I’ll update you again in a few weeks!
It’s always good to have friends who you can relate to and talk to for hours.
I hope these tips are helpful.
