Photo Diary | Mexico City

This time last year, I was preparing for a trip to Mexico City for my friend Carmeon’s birthday, so I thought now would be a good time to actually share some photos here, haha. It was a wonderful trip ( Highlights saved to IG) But I didn’t have a chance to post a photo diary, so I’ll post it this time (lol)!

So, at first I wasn’t sure if I would be able to go as funds were a bit tight, but I had a last minute blessing and bought my plane ticket, packed my bags and headed to meet Calmeon and friends at CDMX for a little vacation adventure. One of the things I love most about the friends I travel with is that although we all have different personalities, we share a common love of enjoying art, culture, food, and overall beauty while traveling. The time we spend together is relatively stress-free, and most of the time we have no expectations of each other other than meeting up. If you want to go on a short trip, yes, if you don’t, that’s fine. We enjoy everything we do together. For this trip, Carmeon didn’t want to plan anything, so his best friend Shavonda was in charge of the itinerary.

It was a very cold trip. Other than a coffee tasting and a private mixology class, there wasn’t much on the long weekend itinerary. She found us a beautiful AirBnb in a walkable part of town so we could get out and explore the neighborhood a little while we waited for everyone to arrive on our first day.

Carmeon, Quita, and I arrived together, so once we were settled we headed to our next location. Gugina Oaxaca To have a quick bite to eat while waiting for others to arrive. It was a nice little cafe on a busy street so we were able to relax and eat while people watching.

Afterwards, we headed back to our AirBnb to meet up with the girls and spend the night relaxing. No heavy night parties for us lol.

2nd day

I didn’t do the coffee tasting because I don’t drink much coffee (more milk and syrup instead of actual beans, please lol). El Bazaar Sabadoan outdoor artisanal market with lots of artists and small vendors set up for shopping. I’m not really into shopping per se when I travel, but I enjoy visiting markets like this because I can always find little treasures and gifts among all the inspiration. I took home a small wooden jewelry box and also bought new shoes because one of my sandals broke during my stay. We had a very fulfilling afternoon with lots of beautiful pottery, art and textiles.

That night we headed to Rosa Negra Restaurant Polanca A dinner to officially celebrate Carmeon’s birthday. The atmosphere was nice and lively (staff sang Happy Birthday and always brought cocktails and bottles to the table along with sparklers, haha) and the food was delicious. I ate a ball in an atmosphere that was a combination of a high-end restaurant and a nightclub (lol).

3rd day

The next day we headed to The Ritz Carlton For brunch Samosrecommend 10/10. I loved it, from the view to the food (still thinking about waffles) to the coffee. It was the perfect (and much needed) start to our day.

Once we were done, we headed to our private mezcal mixology class. salon rosarya dope little bootlegger that’s a hidden gem. Many people don’t like mezcal because of the smoky nature of its flavor, but we learned how to drink mezcal correctly and it’s made a world of difference. I made two different cocktails and I highly recommend taking a mixology class if possible. There’s a real art to mixing cocktails (one tip is to always start with the alcohol pairing), and it’s also a fun experience to share with friends.

I really love this place. In case you haven’t been there, a Hi-Fi bar is a listening bar. They prioritize sound quality and music experience and take inspiration from Japanese coffee shops. Delicious cocktails and the “DJ” they had that night played lots of great records. It has a very relaxing atmosphere, so I would definitely like to visit other cities as well.

The next day we headed home after a slow but long day of travel. I really enjoyed traveling. My only wish was that I could visit Frida Kahlo’s museum, but it was fully booked by 3 months. So, like in Paris, if you plan to visit famous museums, be sure to get your tickets in advance.

I will definitely be visiting Mexico City again in the near future. The city is beautiful and getting around via Uber was pretty easy. This time I went for a slightly more “fancy” experience in terms of food and drinks, but everything was very reasonable (I’m also someone who regularly goes out at home, so research accordingly). My biggest trip for all of you is traveling with a close group of friends. You don’t have to love all the same things, but there must be some commonality within the group. If you’re a turn-up queen and want to go drinking until 5 a.m., you might want to avoid traveling with a crew that arrives early and goes on an 8 a.m. coffee run. You want to have fun, and I’m grateful to have some amazing women in my life!
