OWN presents with confidence Spotlight on yourself: Robertais an intimate and revealing two-hour documentary about the extraordinary life of popular Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and artist Roberta Flack. Broadcast as a special OWN Spotlight presentation during Women’s History Month, the documentary will air on Thursday, March 12th at 9pm ET/PT.
Spotlight on yourself: Roberta The film traces the music icon’s journey from her early piano lounge performances to international stardom, while also highlighting her enduring commitment to civil rights and social change. The program features rare archival footage of Ms. Flack, allowing Ms. Flack to tell her story in her own words, along with interviews with the likes of Rev. Jesse Jackson and Peabo Bryson.
Ms. Flack was known for her deeply emotional, genre-blending ballads that bridged R&B, jazz, folk, and pop. Her chart-topping singles include “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” “Killing Me Softly with His Song,” and “Feel Like Makin’ Love.” She also recorded several iconic hit duets with Donny Hathaway, including “Where Is the Love” and “The Closer I Get to You,” and later teamed up with Peabo Bryson for “Tonight, I Celebrate My Love” and many other timeless classics. During her illustrious career, Ms. Flack was nominated for 13 Grammy Awards and won four awards, becoming the first artist to win Record of the Year in consecutive years (1973 and 1974). She was recently inducted into the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame, scheduled for October 2026. Ms. Flack passed away in 2025 at the age of 88, leaving behind a monumental and enduring legacy.
