“Don’t miss the powerful production of Noughts & Crosses, open air theaters – a story that will shake you up”
This summer, London’s iconic open air theater will showcase the fascinating new adaptation of Noughts & Crosses, a groundbreaking novel by Mallorie Blackman. It is a mirror to our world, a call to action, and it will definitely be an unforgettable theatrical experience.
Why this story is more important than ever
First published in 2001, Noughts & Crosses turned the script on racism by imagining a society in which blacks (cross) hold all their power and whites (noughts) are oppressed. What begins as a Romeo and Juliet love story between Cefy (Cross) and Callum (Wild) becomes a burning quest of prejudice, privilege and resistance.
Pioneering British author Mallory Blackman told Pride: But really, it’s about the system that keeps us separate.
Now, in 2025, the story is more intense than ever as racial tensions and inequality continue globally.
Why should you be there?
1. A stunning outdoor setting
The Open Air Theater at Regent Park is one of London’s most magical venues. Under the summer sky, this production feels immersive, tense, romance and heartbreak urgently.

2. A talented black creative team
The adaptation is led by director Tinke Craig (The Color Purple) and features a cast of great powers, including a rising star in the roles of Sephi and Calm. The creative team has promised a production that combines raw emotions with impressive visual storytelling.

3. The story that moves you
Noughts & Crosses doesn’t just make you think – it makes you feel. Watching the love battle between Sefy and Karam and seeing love with a world designed to tear them apart, you will laugh, anger, and perhaps cry. For black viewers, one moment is deeply reduced and we see us reversed to reflect our own reality.

4. Conversation starter
This is not just an evening in the theatre, but an experience of being with you. Many who read books and saw adaptations from the past say they changed how they view race and power.

Last Word: Don’t miss it
If you’ve ever felt the stab of injustice, if you’ve ever believed in your love for odds, or if you just long for a bold, brilliant theatre, you’re for you. I’ll take your friends, family and your heart. This is more than play. That’s as a movement.
“Stories like this remind us that change is possible, but only if we fight for it.” Blackman.
