Lifelines is a UK registered charity (1168273) that provides friendship and support to death row inmates in the US through letter writing and email.
Penfriends are an essential source of comfort for death row inmates, and can have a huge impact in just a few moments.
Noah (pictured), a 23-year-old law student in St. Louis, Missouri, and a 61-year-old Lee, 61, at Lee, 61, emailed for two years, sharing her interest in art and poetry.
“Even with the knowledge of the crimes that Lee was convicted of, I see no ethical dilemma in protecting his humanity. It was an honor to know him over the past two years. I will continue to write him as he shared with me how much our relationship means to his life. – Noah
Deathrow of London and Albert of Ingrid (pictured) have written each other for 18 years.
“I would like to thank everyone who has been given special friends for my support. Ingrid is one of the people who helped me stay sane.” – Albert
“I am very happy to be part of Lifeline because our friendship has changed our lives. I am the window of Albert’s world and am trying to become a gift of hope while he gives me his understanding and empathy.” – Ingrid, first member since 2006
We provide Lifeline members with a supportive community and the opportunity to learn from inspiring people who work for change. Like past conference speakers, he spent nearly 30 years on death row in Alabama, director of Equal Justice Initiatives for Brian Stevenson, director of Equal Justice Initiatives for Anthony’s freedom.
