We’re halfway through the decade, and the world continues to surprise us. So, okay. New Year’s resolutions don’t always work out. Even if you set a goal, you may forget about it, lose motivation, or give up halfway through. Setting lofty and unrealistic solutions that are likely to be very difficult to achieve can lead to failure. Still, the habit of starting the year with a focus on the heart can help you experience more clarity, deeper purpose, and personal fulfillment as you journey through 2025. Last year I created a multi-year vision board, but not everything written on it came true. That won’t happen, but I’m still optimistic about what’s to come. So I’m going to utilize the health and community theme. If you’re curious about a resolution but cringe when you think about it, consider it your theme or focus area for the year. Keep reading for insight and inspiration to live a great life.
health is wealth
I am a proponent of the idea that health is wealth because without proper health nothing can be achieved or maintained. This year, you can approach taking care of your health three-pronged in a way that considers physical, mental, and emotional factors. These three parts are linked and are very important for proper functioning. Healthy mind = healthy body. You can also start with self-care activities that you really enjoy, like exercise or mindfulness, and move up to other activities from there. In my case, I try to move my body frequently to stay healthy. I have a realistic and affordable daily step goal. It’s currently winter in Canada, so we don’t get enough sunlight. In addition to eating lots of vegetables and reducing carbohydrates, it is also important to get enough vitamin D.
The power of community
Humans are not islands. I know some people. Some are good friends in the Christian faith community and others I have met and become friends through my professional networks. They are all part of my community and the basis of a strong support system. I liken my relationship with all these people to a plant that needs sun, water, and other nutrients to grow. We need to nurture these relationships and provide the right conditions for them to flourish. This is why I choose to choose my energy and choose to be particular about where I invest my time. I love the idea of approaching each interaction with just the right amount of depth and substance needed to make it meaningful and rich. By doing your best for the people you care about most, you can strengthen your bonds of friendship and support. Also remember that it is reciprocal, so you should give as much as you receive. To do this, you need to keep your cup full so that you have something to offer whenever you drink it. The general idea is that you will reach your desired destination faster if you travel in a group than if you travel alone.
According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, people with higher social support are more likely to report being happy, have higher psychological well-being, and have higher life satisfaction. They are also more likely to report a strong sense of belonging to their community and report their mental health to be “very good” or “excellent.” Because of this, family is everything. It’s like a community support system that has your back when you need it most. Imagine being without your family. It can be quite a difficult existence, especially if you don’t have someone to talk to and empathize with on a regular basis. I can’t imagine what such a life would be like, and frankly I don’t want to think about it. In general, I realized that humans are interdependent beings. We fundamentally need others to survive and thrive. That said, it’s best to have the right people in your community, not the wrong ones, so approach carefully and intentionally.
A stress-free way to achieve your New Year’s goals
Life isn’t always fun. No matter how much we want to stay completely zen, stress always sneaks its way into the situation. I’m aware of this, so I’m going to share with you some easy ways to achieve your goals without stress. You’re not alone in wanting a stress-free year. I entered 2025 with a very peaceful feeling in my heart. So I’m going to keep these strategies that help me when I need them and stay where I am. You can also try it out.
Accept what is and be content. There is nothing more stressful in life than being dissatisfied with the current situation. Indeed, constantly wanting more can increase anxiety and leave you constantly dissatisfied. Don’t beat yourself up because you’re not where you’re supposed to be. Accepting where you are and being happy with your results will not only make you feel more satisfied, but may ultimately help you do and accomplish more in the long run.
Stay away from all negativity. It’s very important to be selective about what you consume, whether it’s music, movies, or even social media content. These unconsciously influence the psyche and can have positive or negative consequences depending on their content. In short, what I’m saying is that you can protect your energy by avoiding stressful situations and staying away from toxic or drama-filled people.
Focus on one thing or a few things. It’s natural to want to be a superhero and solve the world’s problems, including your own. I recommend slowing down and focusing on one or a few small, actionable things each quarter. That way, you won’t get overwhelmed or give up because of an insurmountable list of tasks.
Get an accountability partner. It’s definitely beneficial to have someone cheering you on and pushing you to accomplish things. There is a saying that goes, “If you want to go quickly, go alone; if you want to go quickly, go alone.” If you want to go far, let’s go together. ”I describe accountability as walking toward a goal with others. Because two heads are always better than one. They can bring insights, ideas, and intentions that align with where you’re headed.
How are you planning to get off to a good start this year?
