Beautiful lady,
If you know me, you definitely know that the beach is my happy place! Since I was a little girl, I have been going to the beach with my family every summer, and one of my family’s favorite beaches is Wrightsville Beach, North CarolinaI grew up just an hour away from Wrightsville Beach, a place I feel very happy about as I love the ocean, the good food, and the fond memories it brings. My husband and I recently took an early trip to Wrightsville Beach to celebrate my birthday, and we quickly discovered that there was so much more to Wrightsville Beach than we had anticipated.
If you’re like me, when you think of the beach, you naturally think of the ocean and delicious seafood. But hear me out – there’s so much more to Wrightsville Beach than I knew and it’s perfect for a couple’s getaway, a family trip, or just hanging out with friends. We decided to explore more than just the beach and tried out four activities for the first time at Wrightsville Beach and had a blast.
Check out what we did below:
After a short 3 hour drive, we arrived at Wrightsville Beach and our first stop was Airlie Gardens. Airlie Gardens is 67 acres of beautiful gardens and lakes. It has some amazing flowers, artwork, and the 474 year old Airlie Oak. We enjoyed looking at the beautiful flowers, walking the causeway over the lake, and checking out the butterfly house.
As someone who can’t swim, I wasn’t sure if paddleboarding was something I could do, but it was so great that my husband and I got to experience it! We took private lessons with Wrightsville SUP and the staff was absolutely amazing. They made us feel so comfortable and guided us the whole way. After we crossed the water they gave us a little history and told us about the different crabs and plants that live in the area. I can’t believe we learned to paddleboard, but we did it! My goal next time is to learn how to stand on a paddleboard!
Did you know that Sandra Bullock once owned a home in Wrightsville Beach? We didn’t either! We found out on our Wrightsville Beach Scenic Tour. As someone who tends to see most of the sights from the road, it was a great experience to get on a boat and explore more of the area. We saw where the oysters grow, where the fishermen catch and sell their catch of the day, and the beautiful boats and houses on the water. It was so beautiful to sail on the boat and really peaceful.
Before heading home, we stopped off at the Wrightsville Beach History Museum. What I loved from the start was that parking was free for the first two hours. We left the car, enjoyed a glass of lemonade on the museum porch, and headed straight to the Wrightsville Beach History Museum. The museum is located in an old house and has a lot of history about how Wrightsville Beach has evolved over time. We got to see replicas of what Wrightsville Beach used to look like, see the evolution of swimwear, and chat with the staff. It was a really fun experience.
