Becoming a mother for the first time was something special. Good, interesting. First of all, you get to really know who and what your village is made up of. You get to know your limitations, your partner’s limitations. Sometimes you admire yourself. Other times you fail. Either way, it’s a learning process.
We’ve survived four years so far, and I’m excited to see how I grow in the next few years of motherhood.
Here are some things I would never do as a first-time mom.
1) They criticize you unless you’ve done something terrible. For example, if you want your kids to watch TV all day but eat fast food and ice cream for dinner, you feel like a terrible parent. You’re not a terrible parent. Maybe you’re overstimulated or just having a bad day. The light at the end of the tunnel is that your kids are fed and in a warm home.
2) Dropping Off Your Child Without Knowing the Facts I’m sorry, but there are too many weird things in society to just drop off your child without knowing the whole picture. Birthday parties are no exception. My kid just started kindergarten and I’m sure there’s a party every two weeks. I’ll be there, meet the other parents, and chill until it’s time to go home.
3) Buying products without reviews is 100% my fault for doing the reviews. Everything is too expensive for me and my kids to afford.
4) Let her live in my shadow This one goes without saying…whatever she wants to do, she does. That’s our job!
5) Forcing Food I speak of this as a West Indian…don’t force her to eat anything she doesn’t want to eat. Introduce her but don’t force her.
Thank you for reading my thoughts!!!
