There’s nothing more shocking than buying clothes, looking forward to wearing them, only to find out they’re too big, too bad, or too tight. Nevertheless, online shopping is the future of commerce, and it’s important to adapt or be left behind. Proper sizing is important when buying African fashion online. Still, sizes vary from brand to brand, so finding clothes that fit perfectly isn’t always easy. Every clothing brand has its own sizing system and they are all different. A size 6 from brand A could be a size 8 from brand B, so you need to know your measurements and have them on hand every time you make a purchase. If you have no sewing experience, it can be very difficult to understand. Nevertheless, whether you are looking for a great wedding guest outfit or simply want to enjoy the experience of owning an African costume, these tips discussed below will come in handy. Read on to find out how to have an effortless shopping experience that’s worth your time and money.
Check the type of fabric used
Before purchasing anything online, it is important to read the product description and be aware of the fabrics used to make the item. As I have previously mentioned in other articles, most of the so-called African wax print fabrics and the clothing made using them do not stretch. This means you can’t buy clothing in a small size expecting it to stretch wide enough to fit a medium-sized person. it doesn’t work. African wax print fabrics are typically 100% cotton and have no stretch. Note: In recent years, stretch fabrics with printed designs have become popular. These are often polyester, or a mixture of cotton and polyester, or other materials. These are not real wax prints, but you can decide based on your preference.
Find a brand’s size chart
Reputable brands’ websites always have a size chart, which is frequently referenced throughout the product description. Be sure to check your size to know where you will fit. If you find that US or UK sizes are used in either inches or centimeters, it may be important to know both. The most commonly used and widely accepted unit of measurement for clothing is the inch. At the very least, you should be able to look at various size charts online, compare them, and convert the numbers to your actual fit. At this time, be sure to have a tape measure with you so that you can easily measure yourself.
Please measure your size using a tape measure
Tape measures are inexpensive and can be found at your local general store. A typical tape measure is 60 inches long, but if you’re looking for plus-size numbers, you can get longer tape measures up to 100 inches. If you can’t find a plus-size tape measure, you can take a second measurement where the first measurement ends and add the metric to get your final number. Measuring yourself may seem obvious, but it’s not always easy to do. Generally, the most important measurements needed are shoulders, bust, waist, hips, body length, and overall length. Once you have your measurements, be sure to write them down in a book and keep them in a safe place for regular reference. Look at it whenever you shop online and look at the brand’s size chart to see where you fit. If you find yourself between sizes, we recommend sizing up by a larger size rather than sizing down. Personally, I like my African clothes to have a certain amount of room for movement, so I measure them loosely and not too tightly. To visually explain how to measure your body, I looked online for some great video tutorials on how to measure your body. You can see it below.
Think about the style of clothing you want
Clothes sizes always vary depending on the style. This is because certain types of clothing are sewn in different ways. When purchasing a jumpsuit, the sizing is obviously different from a kaftan. Kaftans are loose-fitting garments that tend to be a few sizes larger than usual. Once you’ve found a brand’s size chart and measured your size, consider how the clothing style compares to your size. We recommend choosing a fit that matches your body’s largest dimensions as it correlates to style. For example, when buying pants, your waist measurement is important, but you also want to choose the right fit based on your hip size and height (or pants length). On the other hand, if you want an A-line dress, which is usually sewn for a free fit from the waist down, the most important measurement to consider is the upper body, including the bust, to ensure the perfect fit of the garment. Bodycon dresses are tight-fitting or form-fitting, so all of your body measurements are taken into account. However, flared skirts are often worn draped around the waist and hang loosely over the hips, making this the most important part of the body to measure.
Read the brand’s return and refund policy
Worst-case scenario, you buy something that falls short of your expectations. You can return it at any time for a refund. Please be sure to read our return policy in advance to ensure a smooth process. Please contact them in advance to clarify any other questions you may have regarding the product. Perform your due diligence and make sure you have done enough research. Not all brands offer returns. Sometimes we only do exchanges. Therefore, it is important to know what you are getting into to avoid any kind of disappointment in the future.
After all, it’s the size that really matters, and we hope you’re ready to buy your first African fashion item or additional outfit in our online store.
