It’s already mid-January and I can’t believe it’s a new year. 2024 was a mixed bag of super lows, but also some fun highs. Honestly, I’m ready to see what 2025 brings. Hopefully it will bring a lot of good!
We had a very short but significant snowstorm last week, but instead of panicking and complaining about being “stuck” inside the house, I took advantage of the downtime to relax. Before the storm hit, I ran errands, gathered food, water, snacks, and other necessities, and spent two days curled up on the couch reading, watching movies or YouTube, and taking a nap. I did. Rest is very important to me, especially right now. I mainly work for myself. I love the busy seasons, but over time I’ve come to embrace the slower seasons. Moments like this are when you really take the time to figure out what you want out of your life for the next few months.
I like to use this time to think of ideas, take care of things around the house, and relax. I say “ideas” instead of “plans” because, although I try my best, I’m not very good at planning. It’s not that I don’t have overall goals or plans to make for myself, but my brain doesn’t work like most people’s when it comes to “planning.” I’ve always been someone who breaks things down to their simplest form, so I tend to skip writing everything out. single. step. may have to be taken in order to achieve something. Usually you already know what you need to do, so you don’t necessarily feel the need to write it all out. To be honest, I feel like people waste a lot of time writing and planning things. Often they execute their plans incorrectly, but they have no intention of actually carrying out the plan. The planning element is “sufficient”. I don’t manipulate it. I would rather try it than just think about it. So, I’m not saying you shouldn’t make plans, but if you find yourself constantly writing down your goals and plans but rarely taking actionable steps to achieve them; Honestly, it’s the same as someone who doesn’t plan anything. all. To become master of your own life, you must take action. Plans can help you outline the steps to specific things you want to accomplish, but what’s the point of a plan if you’re not actively working toward those goals?
So for me, I prefer to spend time thinking about ideas. I find inspiration wherever I can and think about how I can put what I’ve learned into practice and apply it to my life. Make a general list of what you want to accomplish, but take the time to visualize what that looks like. For example, if you know you want to take a photo in a certain type of setting, you can imagine yourself in that location, what you’re wearing, the weather, etc. to get a complete idea. What I want to make. After thinking through several scenarios, decide when you want to do this and compile a list of costumes, props, etc. So there is a level of planning, but it’s a very low level.
With all that in mind, I’ve been thinking about what I want to accomplish in the first quarter of 2025. EASE is at the forefront of everything for me right now. Personally, I don’t want to fight the weather to achieve anything, because the weather is so confusing due to the seasons. It’s cold so I really want to relax and cool off. That’s why I’m taking it slow heading into 2025. This doesn’t mean I don’t do anything (creative entrepreneurs are really unstoppable, haha). But what that means is that I’m happy to transition slowly in all areas. I love spending a lot of time at home and even met up with friends a few times. Over the next few months, I plan to do more of that, spend time creating my own content, read some of the books I’ve bought over the last few years, and just enjoy working with clients without feeling the need to work. . Work, work, and more importantly, take care of yourself. Move your body regularly, cook more meals at home, enjoy coffee, incorporate all your self-care habits, and do whatever you can to feel happy, healthy, and rested every day.
I’m sure I’ll be more motivated when spring comes, but for now I’m happy with my simple, easy life and schedule. If you think like me, take this as a sign that you don’t need to understand everything right away. Enjoy the slowness this season brings and take a moment to really focus on what fills your cup.
What are your plans for the new year?
