Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader (DCC) is at the heart of Netflix Docusary American Lover: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. The show chronicles journeys from auditions to training camp and the NFL season, taking an internal look at both the harsh world of professional cheerleading and the personal lives of team members. Season 2 premiered on June 18th, 2025.

Ahead of the 2025 NFL season, cheerleaders confirmed that hourly rates increased by about 400%, an increase of $75. New York Times. Still, that number is only a small portion of what other members of the Cowboys organization earn each year. The exact salary breakdown is not fully revealed, but Season 1 of the series revealed that. Supporting professional sports teams is not particularly advantageous. The revelation sparked anger among viewers, and viewers went to social media to criticize low wages. However, there were no changes until season 2.

In the latest episode, veteran cheerleaders like Jada McLean, Armani Latimer, Amanda Howard and Megan McElaney take bold steps to approach team leadership early in the season and negotiate better contracts. Cheerleaders persisted despite obstacles that included rumors of potential strikes that were ultimately spread by the management. The emotional finale revealed that the team will be significantly promoted for the upcoming season. “We ultimately increased by 400%. This is life-changing,” McElaney says tears.

McLean, a five-year team veteran who retired after the 2024 season, says the experience was emotional and transformative. As a former cheerleader, I absolutely love the show. It brings so many wonderful memories! I wanted to go for it and try it out for the team when I was still full of energy, athleticism and life. These days, my knee will definitely oppose that decision, but wow, I exploded on my prime! lol!
