The 2025 Met Gala was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on May 5th, and celebrated the artistry and cultural significance of black fashion, taking the theme of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The dress code “Tailered for You” invited participants to interpret black dandyism and bespoke tailoring through personal and creative expressions.
Inspired by Monica Miller’s book Slave to fashionthis event highlighted the evolution of the black style and its role in self-expression and resistance. The accompanying exhibition featured over 250 works, including works by designers such as Virgil Abloh, Grace Wales Bonner, Dapper Dunn and Fordai Dumbuya, as well as historical artifacts and artworks that demonstrated the development of black fashion from the 18th century to the present day.
