A few years ago I invited some friends to my house galentine’s day…

As Julia Child said, “A party without cake is just a meeting,” so I set up a cheese plate and asked everyone to bring a sweet treat to share.

Then we sat at the dining table and made heart-shaped notes for our loved ones: friends, parents, partners, children, each other, and ourselves. Drawing paper, scissors, glue stick, sticker, more stickersbeads, ribbons, letter, more charactersand glittery pom-poms. We laughed and told embarrassing stories. Afterwards, I received about a dozen emails from friends saying, “That was so necessary.” I felt the same way.

as emily rap black “Here’s the truth: Friendships between women are often the deepest love stories, yet they are often discussed as if they were a ‘bonus’, ancillary to the relationships that really matter. What are your thoughts? Would you like to host a Galentine’s gathering? What other activities or snacks would you recommend? I’d love to hear it! My friend Susan once had a group of ladies over to watch Clueless on Galentine’s Day, and it was a fun night. I’ll probably be playing PEN15 on mute in the background this year.

Side note: As I was flipping through my phone looking for these photos, I came across a snapshot of a page from Lindy West’s movie compilation book. It still makes me laugh.
