If you haven’t subscribed yet, substackhere I get a little more personal — writing from the heart about self-care, motherhood, health, and everything in between. My community liked this post so I would like to share an excerpt here.

we won’t wake anyone up plan You end up spending more time on your phone than you would like. That’s just…what happens. A simple check turns into 20 minutes of scrolling and suddenly it’s 2pm and you have no idea where your morning went. We’ve all been through it at some point, and let’s be honest: This isn’t an article to make you feel guilty about screen time.

The problem is that no matter how much I try to use my phone, there are still days when I end up spending far more time on it than I planned. This always comes up in conversations with friends and will definitely come up in conversations about parenting in 2026.

Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, you can fall back into habits that keep you from living the free, fulfilling life you actually want to live.

A great example of this is a few weekends ago when Austin was hit by an ice storm and I found myself stuck at home for four full days with nowhere to go. In my mind, I had visions of a cozy, dreamy weekend of playing games, doing art projects with the kids, cleaning out my closet (just me?), baking cookies, and watching movies as a family. A lot of that happened, but it also meant a lot of refreshing Slack notifications and scrolling through Instagram.

I could feel my nervous system becoming louder. It’s that nervous but tired feeling that creeps in when you’re consuming more than you’re processing.

The fact that it coincided with an incredibly turbulent time in the world didn’t help either. I’ve read too many comment threads of people arguing about politics, hurling insults, and watching incredibly disturbing videos about what’s going on in Minnesota. By Monday night, I could feel it in my body. I was distracted, anxious, and getting into arguments with Adam and the kids about things I wouldn’t normally worry about.
