Read at the lake

I’m coming to you something a little different from my Race Matters column: Summer Reading Recommendations! I have been an editor of the book for over 20 years. And reading is not just my career, but my passion. This summer is packed with amazing books. This is perfect for readers, but it presents a challenge. If you want a beach bag, pouch hang or road trip book idea, we’ve narrowed down our list of 8 that have something for everyone…

Christine Pride Books Review Cup of Jo

It’s a love story By Annabel Monaghan. If you’re already a fan of Annabelle’s books (At the same time next year, Nora will turn off the script, summer romance), you know she creates the most loving, relevant character that can’t help you cheer. Her latest heroine, Jane Jackson, is a former child star who is trying to live her past long as a “strange” sitcom character. She turns to making feature films from the ROM-COM scripts she has fallen hard. To invite her boss to the Greenlight, she promises that her old friend, megapop star Jack Kinlan, will write an original song for the film. problem? Jack is really not a friend, he seems to be the one who broke Jane’s heart a few years ago. To track Jack Down, she needs the help of her colleague Dan, the last person she wants to rely on. He may help a broken heart. This novel goes down like a glass of cold lemonade on a hot day. It’s easy, foaming, completely satisfying.

King of Ashes By Sa Cosby. If you’re interested in audiobooks, Very I recommend listening to this novel. Narrator Adam Lazaret White has a smooth baritone. He listens to him reading the toaster manual. King of Ashes I don’t scream Light Beach reads (Cosby’s work has a gritty edge and several corpses), but I never read stories about gangs, crime, or danger. A distinctive feature of Cosby’s work is his setting. It is a southern backwater with colorful language, thick humidity and loud insects. Our hero, Roman, returns to the countryside of Virginia, taking into consideration high stakes drama. The hospital’s father is troubled by the mysterious loss of his mother, his father unable to run the family crematorium, and his brother is entangled in the local criminal world. The plot competes, but beyond the twists of the heart, the novel is a powerful reminder of how risky we have to protect our loved ones.

atmosphere Taylor Jenkins Lead. I’m being blown away into Taylor’s range. She has written more than dozens of novels exploring a world ranging from competitive tennis to old Hollywood. As Time Magazine said, all of that made her a “publishing powerhouse.” Recent Profiles. Now she’s taking her readers… into the space. Set in the 1980s, the novel, following two women in NASA’s second class female astronauts, must navigate in many ways the competitive, sexist and exhilarating world of space travel as a true pioneer. Hidden romance, new frontiers, and Pulse Pond adventures? check. check. check. think: Top Gun, Hidden person and For all humanity atmosphere. One of my favourite readings of 2025.

name By Florence Nap. Random facts about me: my parents were planning to name Stephanie during their mother’s pregnancy. Then when I was born they made a last minute switch to Christine. Sometimes if I were “Stefanie,” would my life have unfolded differently? That’s the premise of this novel. name If he is given three different names, it consists of three different stories (sliding door style) that follow the path of life of Kora’s son. The name is just part of the legacy we give to our children. Kora thinks about everything she is dead by her son. It’s resilience and trauma.

Grand Paloma Resort By Cleyvis Natera. There was a comparison of white lotus on this list, and this is it! The novel explores class and tourism in high-end resorts in the Dominican Republic, with a page-turning plot. I adore stories about sisters, and here, Laura, a loyal sister, realizes that her selfish sister, Elena, is in deep trouble. The quest for family, wealth and effort is as rich as the people at this five-star resort. I’ll be there on August 12th.

Everyone is lying to you By Jo Piazza. You need to live under a rock because you have never heard of a traditional phenomenon. Journalist Jo Piazza (who happens to be my writing partner) brings the classic TradWife novel now. It’s a thrilling, fast-paced mystery. Come on twisting the plot and stay for commentary on social media. The novel cleverly captures all the emotions we have as we scroll through our feed at 3am I’ll be there on July 15th.

What kind of paradise By Janelle Brown He may be the older cousin of Joe’s book. For all the love/hate on social media, this story brings us back to the internet eve in Silicon Valley. Our main character, Jane, grows up in a rural Montana cabin with her devoted but maniacal father, who tends to squeal di about the illness of civilization. Jane is disillusioned with her father’s worldview, feeling that something is wrong with him as well, and persistently what he said to her about their past. Ultimately, she builds for a breathtaking escape, but not before she gets caught up in a lifelong outcome incident. Her path took her to San Francisco on the eve of the dot-com boom in the 1990s, promising that the internet was a great utopia. As soon as I finished the book, I spit out a personal note to Janelle. I was totally obsessed with the voice and couldn’t put this on.

And of course, I have to include my own. All the men I loved againMy solo debutcame out last week and is very beach friendly. It tells the story of Kora, a woman who falls in love with two men in her 20s. same Two men Also As she is about to turn 40, the wild premise has been torn from my own life. It’s a fun, heartfelt, sultry coming-of-age story, heavy on nostalgia and 90’s music playlists. I will mail a plate of signed books to a cup of a jaw leader who is looking for one.

What book is at the top of your list this summer? The author also loves it when readers come to events. So, check out the tour information for these novels, wear cute summer dresses and make friends.
