I like winter. There’s something oddly satisfying about the ongoing battle with nature. every time i please don’t When you hit the ice with four bags of groceries, it feels like a hard-won victory. Still, sometimes I wish I could get some relief from the unrelieved pain in my butt during the winter months. In the past, we’ve shared small and inexpensive things that make our daily lives easier. And since February really was February this year, I wanted to share the little things that made up our event. winter It makes life easier. Good luck, gang. There’s less than a month left (?!?!)

Lifesaver: palmer cocoa butter

I’m not trying to sound like Lt. Dan, but I’m trying to sound like Lt. Dan. Taking care of your feet is especially important in winter. Dry feet can be painful. i use this cocoa butter For me, it’s all year round, but especially during the colder months. I sit next to my bed every night and paint it like a mother in a movie, sealing everything up with socks and slippers. Don’t forget the soles of your feet!

Lifesaver: heattech base layer and Quince ultralight sweater
I swear by almost everything in it UNIQLO HEATTECH family (See: My 2017 Outfit Week), especially leggingsthe length will be twice as long as the underwear. I wore them in October and will continue to wear them until April (I’m wearing them now). It’s so thin that it fits under almost anything without adding bulk, making it really useful. I’ve spent a lot of time protesting outdoors this winter, so I can definitely confirm this.

My other go-to underlayer pieces are: This super lightweight cashmere sweater. It’s thin and snug, so you can wear it under a thick sweater for added warmth on frigid days when you have to shovel snow from your car.

Lifesaver: Soak in the hot spring monkey bath & Acorn original slipper socks
I love the emotional process of all four seasons, but most of the emotions I feel in winter are disgust and despair. What helps is spending time in the bath. I recently found A bath inspired by a hot spring And I’m hooked. I don’t fully understand what the Himalayan salt and magnesium flakes do, but let me tell you, you feel like spaghetti noodles after you eat them. And the scent of cedar and pine is truly divine.

I always have cold feet so my other go-to for winter is: acorn slipper socksI’ve been wearing it since I was a kid. The wool part has good breathability, so your feet won’t get stuffy. The suede sole has extra structure and padding, so it’s actually very comfortable to wear on your apartment’s hardwood floors.

Savior: Better Spice

In a highly competitive White Elephant gift exchange over the holidays, I won a set of spices from. Small-batch spice store In San Francisco. Since then, I’ve learned that a) fancy seasonings actually exist; do You need to make a difference (especially in the winter when good produce is hard to come by) and b) go through your spice drawer and throw out all the old and expired stuff. Just one or two upgrades can make everyday cooking feel like a fun project. I’m adding a pinch of this Herbes de Provence Adding it to salad dressings definitely makes grocery store vegetables taste better.

Lifesaver: Dr. Bronner’s Hand Spray

To avoid sniffles and bugs, I keep a bottle like this: Dr. Bronner’s Lavender Hand Sanitizer Spray Hide it anywhere, including in your car or belt bag. My kids touch everything, so I always sit in the back seat after shopping at the library or the supermarket. I love that lavender smells fresh and herbal, rather than harsh or sterile (this one is no different) trader joe’s versionwhich I also use). We go through a lot during this time!

Lifesaver: really good mug

I grew up in Montreal, know winter. It really helps to have a mug that you look forward to drinking from in the morning, especially when it’s still dark outside. What I asked for was This East Fork mug I received it as a birthday present a few months ago. I’m no longer afraid to get out of bed. Because I know my bed is waiting for me.

Lifesaver: pocket thermos & wrist warmer

My aunt recently came to visit from London, and while we were out on a cold, rainy day, she suddenly pulled out a small screw-top bottle from her coat pocket. It turns out it’s not a flask of booze (as I briefly imagined), but stainless steel thermos. When it’s cold, I use it to make tea or as a water bottle. When I asked where he got it, all he said was “Japan.” I was able to track it down with deep google here. (My husband is not very patient and discovered something similar It doesn’t hold a lot of liquid, but it’s so convenient that you can just keep it in your pocket.

My other winter essentials are: wrist warmer — Also known as fingerless mittens. It doesn’t matter how much heat you turn up. On some days, cold drafts are unavoidable. I got distracted while working on my laptop. That’s because your wrists get uncomfortably cold after hours of typing (does anyone else get cold desk surfaces too?). The only thing that helps is fingerless mittens. Sure, wearing a little wool on my wrist to work makes me feel like a Dickensian character, but it’s amazing how much of a difference it makes to my day.

Let’s go! Are you relying on something small to get you through the winter?

PS Much cheaper things that make life better, and a very modest winter checklist.
