How was your weekend? Back in December, a reader named Molly asked if I could share a recap of the weekend. This was a very nice request. This is the first one, and below is the second one (share yours in the comments!)…

First, a foot of snow fell in New York! Of course, the boys were also very happy.

We took the plunge and went to a friend’s house and felt like heroes when we walked down the block.

When I got it back, it was incredibly moist and delicious. banana bread Contains a secret ingredient of sour cream. I added chopped sea salt chocolate bars to make it even more decadent.

And muesli as a snack courtesy of my father.

Then some cute visitors arrived at our house. “Everyone we passed on our walk here was in a good mood,” my friend Alison told us. “We pulled Georgie through the snow on a red sled. As the bus passed, the bus driver waved to us. Then a fire truck passed and all the firefighters waved to us. We saw cross-country skiers all over town and we all talked about what kind of snow shovels they were using. It was the friendliest city I’ve ever seen.” I love that New York hosts collective events. Because on that day, everyone becomes instant best friends.

Toby then took a nap on the sofa and asked me to read next to him. He felt like a puppy at my feet. Additionally, I am reading “THE BEST BOOK YOU GUYS”…

lady tremaine Written by Rachel Hochhauser. It launches on March 3rd, and we already know it’s going to be huge. Hochhauser tells the story of Cinderella from the stepmother’s perspective. Lady Tremaine is smart, thoughtful, and hardworking. And since women have little power and few options, she desperately tries to help her daughters find safe marriages. Their family has been falling apart ever since her second husband died, leaving her with debts. Erin (Cinderella), on the other hand, is tweety and annoying, constantly quoting from books about female etiquette. I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s so beautifully done and reminds me of Lauren Groff’s work. matrix But there are more family secrets.

Finally, I made it for dinner. chicken fajitasIt was simple but flavorful. I ate it with rice, cheddar cheese, and sour cream. Have you done anything good recently? I would love to hear it. And, as always, just in case everything looks very rosy, not pictured is the sibling quarrels, the frustration of being helpless, the leaky kitchen, and some sadness. Because life is a still life, even on a snowy day.
Now tell me: How was your weekend? If you too are scared of what’s happening in Minnesota. There’s a way to help those brave people out there (and This food pantry offers delivery), similarly how to help People fighting ICE in Maine. Shit
PS More fun, and books we love, all over the page.
