How are you feeling? The news cycle feels like a tornado that’s wiping us out. But here are two things I keep in front of my mind about what’s going on in America now (and share your thoughts in the comments)…
1. Stay stable and stay focused. The Trump administration has developed specific plans to begin his second period. A sense of shock and adoration. They thought they would be flooded with the media and overwhelm the public, which makes us so confused that we don’t know what to do and we just freeze.
“If you overwhelm the media – you don’t see too many places, if you keep moving from one thing to the next at once, you won’t be able to show consistent opposition.” Ezra Klein Above His podcast Last Sunday.
But don’t believe what Trump says, Klein urges. Trump makes a wild, frightening declaration, but as long as he may wish, the president is unable to rewrite the constitution, and many of his proposals have been stopped through the gates. “Within a few days, Babies citizenship order It was frozen by the judge,” Klein wrote. “The judge is frozen Spending is frozen It was expected to come into effect, and soon after, the Trump administration rescinded the order to avoid trial. ”
This doesn’t mean that things aren’t bad, it’s true. I don’t want to minimize the debris. People live in immense fear, and many people are harmed, including trans people, immigrants, federal workers. Even the threats Trump makes, the language he uses makes people unsafe by promoting racism, sexism, and “we vs. them” thinking.
However, instead of freezing in shock, you can act together. “The pace and frequency of these crimes, as Steve Bannon said, is intended to flood the zone with shit. To confuse, peel off the bamboo and fixate.” Jay Michelsonrabbis, activist, former professor, in his newsletter Both/and. “They promised that they would be “shocked and adored,” and that’s what they did. There’s nothing surprising here. Don’t lose your composure. “We stand firmly.
2. Get it 5 Calling AppsIt will be very easy to call the person in charge. You can make five calls in 5 minutes. They give you a phone number and tell you exactly what to say about the main issues (for protecting the Department of Education, buying Elon Musk’s government, and for the Secretary of Health and Human Services, RFK Jr. opposed to the following). It’s simple and simple, and these calls make a difference.
Also consider reading Individual: A practical guide to brink-based democracyproviding a crystal clear strategy to fight back over the next four years. Written by two very clever and interesting people, this guide felt strongly about reading.
Share your thoughts below – these are extremely difficult times, but we have many good people and a lot of energy and bandwidth in this country. Send a big embrace and solidarity.
