Towards a big leap forward: Before I moved here, I was in a relationship and we started looking at houses together even though we knew we weren’t a good fit. That relationship ended, and two weeks later I saw the house for sale on a bakery bulletin board. As soon as I walked in the door, I thought, “Oh my god.” This is my home. ”I decided to take the leap. And it was the best leap I’ve ever taken.

On being a New Englander: I grew up on the coast of Massachusetts, surrounded by nature and roaming through the woods, and New England remains a huge influence on my tastes and work as an artist. I once created a series of hand-stitched banners made from old boat flags. It was a banana because the banana was so big.

About durable art: The circle on the table is actually my artwork. The kids really seem to like it. They go right towards them and throw them away. But I left it to them – they are sturdy!

About the vignette: I love collecting and creating things around the house. I’ve been doing it since I was a kid. Collect objects from outside and arrange them side by side, as if they were having a conversation with each other. Even though I’m always trying to reduce and clean things up, I end up creating another scene. It can’t be helped.

When connected: I found this poster in French. auction house Here in LA, I was born in the year of the Rooster, so when I saw it was a Rooster, I was immediately drawn to it. I said to myself. “If you don’t mind, I can buy it if your bid isn’t too high.” And of course, I was the only one who made a bid.

If you’re working with what you have: When we moved in, the kitchen wasn’t in great condition so we had to work on it to make it work. I think of it as something like a boat kitchen because it’s a small space.

For landlines: I love having a phone in my house because we had one like this in our kitchen when I was a kid. It was my actual landline for many years and I just finally turned off the service. The only person still using that number is an old friend of my mother’s who calls from back east. And because they didn’t remember the time difference at all.

About the calendar: I purchase these calendars every year from the following store in LA. Bunkado. Designed by artist Hajime Okamoto, each year has a different cat theme. This time it was a railway cat. The picture of my dog, Rocket, was drawn by my friend’s daughter Charlie when she was 4 years old (she’s 14 now). I like it very much.

For a playful space: My friend’s children always end up playing in the guest room when they come over. So I keep all my toys and stuffed animals and fun things there.

On a nice bed, You know what’s wild? I saw this bed before I moved here. It belonged to a dear neighbor, who was selling property when his partner passed away. and I just loved The bed was so cute. So I figured it out, and my relationship ended and I ended up in this house. When I saw this corner with the small triangular ceiling, I knew that the bed was there. It was perfect perfectly.

On the green floor: When I moved in, these floorboards were pine with shellac. Hmm. My solution was to paint over it with this dark green paint. I was really happy because it makes me feel happy every time I look at it.

About red and white: I love the red and white stripes. When I was a child, my father’s best friend was a professor of classics and we got to spend time in Greece. we could go there. I remember standing on the beach when I was four years old and seeing so many red and white beach balls. I was filled with awe.

About the colorful collection: i love enamel lamp From the 60’s and 70’s. I’m so excited about the simple shapes, great colors, and practical designs.
art studio

About the ritual: I’m an early morning person and have a habit of starting my day by burning some Japanese incense and playing dreamy music like Brian Eno. Then I have a cup of tea. I like to sit in the studio and just be before I start working.

Reflect on: Currently, my studio contains a mix of my old and new work, as well as my parents’ work. It’s great to look around and see the progress and how everything is connected.

Thank you so much for sharing your home with us, caitlin!
