The Best Smoked Salmon Toast Recipe for an Effortless Brunch
SHARE

A few weeks ago, my friend Anne hosted a sourdough making class at her home, and it was the nudge I needed to get hooked. There is something very satisfying about feeding my starter, shaping the dough and pulling beautifully golden bread from the oven.

But as fellow sourdough fanatics know, there is a tiny window that is absolutely the best. The outside is crisp and the inside is soft, making it perfect for slicing. So recently I’ve been taking part in the “toast for dinner” kick to make the most of my freshly baked bread. This smoked salmon toast is something I’ll always come back to. With creamy whipped cheese, freshly crunchy cue and briny bursts of caper and lemon zest, it’s a combo of flavours that will make you savoury.

Dream No Cook Dinner

In addition to the toasted sourdough crunch against rich smoked salmon, the creamy bliney caper and cucumber cheese is the next level combination that feels tall enough for brunch, but it’s easy to throw together for mid-week dinner Not that. I served it with this cafe-inspired gathering and it was such a hit. I like to stack everything on board and have my family build their own (DIY dinner for victory).

Necessary materials

Here’s what I was summarizing this:

  • Toasted sourdough – A truly good quality sourdough addicted to this.
  • Whipped cream cheese – I like the light and airy quality of the whip version. Ricotta or cottage cheese can also be used.
  • Smoked salmon – Packed with salty flavor and flavor (and protein).
  • Persian cucumber – For freshness and crunch.
  • capers – Blinny and salty pop. If you are not a Caper fan, feel free to omit it.
  • shallot – I like to shave my mandolin and thin the sliced paper.
  • Fresh dill and mint -The more herbs there are, the more (in my book!)
  • Edible flowers – If you’re feeling the extra, these are beautiful finishing touches for a spring gathering.
  • All bagel seasonings – Really makes everything better and brings the classic “Bagel and Rocks” flavor profile.
  • Lemon skin – Add a bright, citrus flavor – Don’t skip this.

Perfect smoked salmon toast tips

  • Uses high quality ingredients – The easier the recipe is, the brighter all the elements will shine, so we want to consider the quality of the ingredients.
  • Thickly slice the sourdough – In this recipe, thicker slices help to hold all the toppings.
  • Choose the best smoked salmon – Look for high quality salmon, like butter, not overly salty.
  • Do not skip lemon zest – It brightens everything and brings together the flavors.

Variations try out

One of the best parts of the toast situation is that it is endlessly customizable. Some ways to riff this combo:

  • Low carb or “snack” options – Replace sourdough with seed-based crackers or flatbread.
  • Spicy version – Add red chili flakes or hot honey drizzle.
  • DIY toast bar – Set the spread with toppings such as avocado, radish, pickled onion, or soft boiled eggs, and everyone makes their own. The “Toast Party” is very fun.

  3. Shave capers and shaved shallots over toast, then finish with a fresh dill and mint mix. For extra flavor, sprinkle with all the bagel seasonings, a little grated lemon rind and a drizzle of olive oil. If you want to take things into a notch, edible flowers add the most beautiful touch.
