For the past 20 years I’ve been a huge fan Barrio Neil And their gorgeous jewelry. The Philadelphia-based studio was founded by two best friends, Anna Barrio and Paige Neal, and every piece they create is made with ethically sourced stone and environmentally responsible practices. Masu. So this year, when I decided to design a ring to celebrate this new chapter in my life, I turned to them…
This ring above was my engagement ring. It’s very beautiful, but I haven’t worn it anymore since my marriage ended a few years ago. And now I’m settling into the next phase – full of friendship and passion new love — I wanted to redesign the ring to feel personal, heartfelt, and modern.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Page Neal (left), the very warm and lovely co-founder. Have you ever created custom jewelry before? I was both excited and intimidated. I mean, what did I know? — But Barrio Neal makes every step fun and easy. To create a piece from scratch, start with something short custom designed survey. Share your favorite metals, cuts, gemstones, and price ranges and work with your designer on next steps. (If you want to add your own touch to your work but don’t want to start from scratch, you can use Bario Neal’s tools. Online customization platform. )
Next, Page asked me to create a mood board of general photos and moods that I liked (you can see some of them above).
…and to tell her which ring I was drawn to on the website. I really enjoyed this challenge and found myself drawn to blues, asymmetrical clusters, and modern curves.
After looking at my mood board, Paige sent me a bunch of different designs for me to consider. How cool are these two?
I then visited Barrio Neal’s Brooklyn studio and saw their jewelry in person. The guy helping me seemed just as excited as I was, and we ended up trying on the ring together. I wish I could have stayed here all day and wandered around. I’m addicted to them radial cluster diamond ringI decided to customize it with Sapphire and some personal tweaks.
I had some leftover jewelry from my ring, so I designed some earrings as well. Paige shared her design ideas, so we could actually move the little gems around in the store to find the pattern we liked best. It was amazing to see the design come together right before my eyes.
Now, off to the races! I absolutely loved working with Paige and her team. I was shocked by the processed photos of the earrings and rings. Barrio Neal’s mission — founding a jewelry company committed to respecting human rights and environmental sustainability — shines a light in everything they do. All metals and gemstones have a fully traceable supply chain and are responsibly sourced from miners who meet ethical, social and environmental standards.
In my ring, the diamonds are carbon-neutral lab-grown diamonds that are certified sustainable, the aquamarines are sustainably sourced from Brazil, and the champagne diamonds are recycled. How great is that?
That’s it! Want to see the final ring?
Isn’t it gorgeous?! I love it so much. It feels modern yet timeless and full of feminine thoughtfulness and talent. Bario Neal jewelry is made in our Philadelphia studio, and you can feel the love in every piece.
The entire Barrio Neal team It was a very rewarding experience and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for special jewelry.
