Some nights when you need victory, that’s where this sloppy Joe recipe comes. This is an easy to make, inexpensive and child-friendly 20-minute meal. For me, sloppy Jaws is always a reminder of summer camp as it is the type of meal served in a cafeteria style setting. This is a totally comfortable food mixed with nostalgia for me.
If you’re familiar with it, sloppy joe is a type of sandwich made with ground beef and tomato sauce. It’s the intersection between spaghetti sauce and chili, but it works like a burger.

On the same bread, cook the ground beef until the pink remains, until it passes.

Cheers to the bread before adding sloppy jaw stuffing. enjoy!

Tips and notes
- It can replace ground beef or ground meat such as turkey and chicken.
- I used two shallots in this recipe, and 1/2 of the yellow or red onions also work well.
- I use green peppers and any color works. You can also omit the peppers, but I like the slight crunch it adds to the filling.
- Sometimes I add a little hot sauce to the sauce, like frank.
- Do not drain the fat/juice pan from the cooked ground beef before adding sauce and vegetables. However, if you want the sloppy jaw filling to be a bit lighter and thicker (with little liquid), drain it before adding it.
