I’m learning to make all kinds of mocktails. A quest to try them all and become the best hostess ever! If you love Shirley Temple, you’ll love Roy Rogers’ drinks.
Like Shirley Temple, it’s much more fun to order drinks named after an actor who is more famous than the basic cola of the Grenadines. Loi Rogers, known as the King of the Cowboys, called it one of his favourite drinks. Roy Rogers Mocktail is a non-alcoholic mixed drink that tastes like cherry cola.

Roy Rogers Drink – A Short History
Roy Rogers’ drinks have always been alcohol-free drinks, and they are drinks that you could order from an old-fashioned soda shop.
The famous Mocktail is named after Roy Rogers, who appeared in Western and musical cowboy films in the 1940s and 1950s. Since Roy Rogers didn’t drink alcohol, it makes sense that he had a soda drink named after him.
This drink was originally famous for soda shops in the 1950s, and in time it became an iconic mocktail to order whenever you need a fun drink that is free of alcohol.
It’s a fun sound to feel flashy, like Shirley Temple (my 5- and 8-year-old daughters love doing it in restaurants!). Make it feel flashy, we say!
What is Roy Rogers’ drink?
- Cora – I used the Coca-Cola because the Coca-Cola is classic and very tasty. You can also choose sugar-free or organic cola if you like.
- Grenadine syrup – You can also purchase grenadine syrup at many stores. There is also a simple recipe for making your own grenadine (syrup made with bright red pomegranate juice).
- Maraschino Cherry – Required! Use one or several.
- ice Cube If you have it, pebbles or crushed ice is perfect.

Tips for making
- Add lime For a more balanced version, add half ounces of grenazine and half lime juice. This will balance some of the sweetness and sourness, and give you a little more sourness.
- Fresh mint Add fresh mint as a garnish to enhance the sensory experience of this soda drink.
- Roy Rogers Cocktail If you’re dead to turn this into a cocktail, keep the lime and add 2 ounces of dark rum, whiskey or vodka. You can use a shot of the selected liquor. If you add a shot of Vodka Roy Rogers, he may not approve himself, but we don’t judge.
- Organic Cola If you want to make a healthier version with less sugar, try replacing cola with prebiotic drinks like Olipop or Poppi.
