This year, Toby and Anton will have separate spring breaks for the first time ever, as they attend different schools. I was fortunate to be able to go on one-on-one trips. It felt really special. Last week Toby and I went to San Francisco to visit family…

As soon as we arrived, we went straight to my sister Lucy’s house. How cute is she?

My niece and I have a long tradition of playing Block Blast while chatting about everything and nothing in particular. So after taking an evening walk and eating pasta for dinner, I did just that.

The next day, Toby and I went to Sutro Baths, which used to be a public indoor pool facility. The fresh sea air felt so nice on our faces.

I also received this cool comic books Let Anton take you home.

Apart from this, I am happy with my packing strategy as we have talked about packing many times in the past. Mostly black, white, cream, gray, and blue, everything was mix and match. Photo here: jacket, shirt, jeansand similar loafers.

We borrowed my sister’s car to get around, but one afternoon we took a self-driving Waymo just for fun. Watching the handle rotate on its own may be startling at first, but it soon feels very safe. Waymo is basically like an A+ student, completely rolling back and stopping at every stop sign. My brother-in-law, Jeevan, said he once saw a line of 10 Waymo cars patiently following a garbage truck up the hill without even trying to detour (lol).

We were lucky enough to meet some friends. Julia And a toddler daughter…

…He looked at teenage Toby as if he were the world’s biggest celebrity.

We also went to a Warriors game with some friends.

A real nail biter…

…But they cruised to a 109-106 victory in the final minute.

Also, this jacket is cool, right? ? ? The man wearing it said it was made Elias Gutin.

The next day, Toby and I walked along the water, explored the Ferry Building, and drove down winding Lombard Street (which is hard to photograph!).

Last but not least, I had dinner with my cousins…

…And then we did a quick height check. As I was taking this photo, Dr. Kalanithi asked, “Are we the same???” I answered, “Not at all.”

Finally, we said our goodbyes and went home, stepping over this guy’s foot every time I had to stand up (lol). It was a really fun trip and I felt very lucky to have met everyone. California, we love you!
Where does your family live? Nearby or far? How do you stay in touch? My sister and I also have a 5-minute phone call.
PS A past trip to California and what it’s like to be twins.
