Hummingbird Food – A Beautiful Mess

Recently, our world includes a lot of outdoor time with kids, so I became a feeder for birders and hummingbirds. I thought I would share how to make hummingbird food, known as hummingbird nectar. This is homemade nectar, in contrast to the natural nectar that hummingbirds get from their flowers.

Hummingbird food is easy to make. You can even make it with young children. You only need two sugar and water. It’s only a few minutes, just a few minutes.

  • Water – tap water is fine
  • Granular white sugar

You also need a hummingbird feeder to store your homemade nectar. Cactus-shaped feeder What I love. My son thinks it’s pickles. Whatever you choose, I recommend something with something that is easy to open so you can meet it. You also need something that is easy to clean.

How to make hummingbird food

Hummingbird food is made with 4 to 4 parts of sugar in water. My feeder holds two glasses of water easily with 1/2 cup of sugar.

Mix the sugar and water and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Then pour into the feeder and hang it in a prominent place outside.

There is no need to boil water. I do not recommend adding red food dyes, it is not necessary and may not be healthy for the bird.
