I’ve never felt like you were living two lives. One person is trying to catch up with your own busy schedule. You are not alone. Caring for those we love as they get older is one of the most rewarding things we do. But be honest – it’s also tired. Maybe they eat a lot, or feel lonely, or whether they remember their medicine, you’re constantly wondering. You can always feel like “on”.

Good news? You don’t have to do it all by yourself. There are small practical steps you can take to relieve stress and yet give your parents the love and support they need. You don’t need to feel that finding a balance is impossible, so let’s walk through some of them together.

  • 1. Start with an honest conversation
The best way to get started is to talk to your parents. So ask how they feel and if there is anything they need help. You can also ask what kind of concern you are and what kind of support you are OK. These talks may seem a little troubling at first.
